The "cold front" dropped the temp from 108 to 102, that's funny...

There's a decent chance that things can cool down later this summer. Here's a post I made earlier in the thread that explains how:

Not in Dallas though. Even Louisiana is in on the ridge right now. High of 96 under sunny skies expected by Sunday.

What happened is the tropical storm that hit Florida, as you know it has a counterclockwise circulation so what that did was pump dry air from the north into Texas and Louisiana. This time of year dry air equals heat as it means nonstop sun all day and the night isn't as long (in the winter dry air means cold nights).

The ridge on the eastern part, in New Orleans has to break down before it can break down in Lake Charles, before it has to break down in Houston, etc... Dallas is in the middle of the ridge, it may not happen.

Lake Charles is supposed to be 97 on Sunday. Houston 98, Dallas 96 (but 103 on Saturday), and Austin 101 on Sunday. These are all under mostly sunny skies with 0% chance of rain.

This late spring is setup entirely different than last year. The early spring was entirely different as well.

My prediction is the ridge will break down in New Orleans around mid June and possibly in Lake Charles but it won't get to Houston. Then the standard normal high pressure dome that dominates Texas will build back and penetrate east out to Mississippi or Alabama, even as far north as KC.

Then there will be a front in say maybe mid September that will cool off Dallas but it will take longer before a front hits Houston.

It doesn't have to "break down." All that's needed is a north enough shift.

Let's hope not. We don't need to set any records.

I remember 2011 all too well. Lived in DFW at the time while in school and worked outside. That was the worst summer I've ever experienced but if you got some shade it wasn't too bad. A lot of pool and lake action too. Had friends that said that the hot summer was the sacrifice in order for the Mavs to win.

Price you pay for the recent mild summers.

Or that's how I frame it in my head.

Heat or no heat, tennis is still on...

Local's tip: because the humidity is so low late afternoon, if you wear a hat and wet it, you get onboard AC that goes where you do. While far to declasse' for the more hoity members of this board, just getting your hair or shirt wet at the end of the day before you go home is PLENTY to take the edge off so long as you're drinking lots of water in general. (Transplants, tea and coffee is NOT a workable substitute in the heat).

The ridge goes well into the mid Gulf. It could shift north 200 miles and things wouldn't change.
