The Libertarian Party has been around for 40 years and has been utterly irrelevant for that entire time because their ideas have been rejected by almost all Americans whatever their political leanings. Johnson got 1.27 million votes in 2012, which isn't even 1% of the total votes cast.

Ross Perot got close to 20% of the vote in 1992, and that didn't stop Bill Clinton from winning a clear electoral college victory of 370 votes. Perot's 20% of the vote netted him zero electoral college votes.

Johnson will not do anywhere near as well as that, although I guess he can't end up with less than zero EC votes.

Hulk Hogan's $100 million Johnson might have a better path to become the POTUS. This message is brought to you by Gawker Media.

The House may well vote for Johnson.

Meanwhile the Senate would pick the VP. A VP the GOP liked.

Everybody wins?

I support Gary Johnson! I like Gary Johnson! I would love for him to win!

... but ... How on earth is this supposed to work? The Electoral College is elected by voting on the state level. In some cases, it's a winner take all electors for whoever gets the most votes. Some states are starting to implement automatic runoffs. In both cases, Gary Johnson needs to actually beat both Trump or Clinton in order to get any electors.

Now you are quite correct that if after the Electoral College is determined, if they do not produce a winner then it goes to the House of Representatives. I just think you're massively misunderstanding how you get to that point.

It ain't that strange, sweetpea. Put this in your bong and smoke it ... Hillary probably already has 242 electoral votes sewn up from the states that have been traditionally blue by significant margins for 25+ years. She only needs to win Florida or a combo of 2 or 3 other states to win the WH.

I voted for him in 2012. I couldn't bring myself to vote for Obama again and I didn't like Romney.

Yet.......

She still hasn't managed to beat a 75 year old hippy socialist with one arm tied behind his back. She isn't even getting the vote that she had in 2008

No doubt one of the worst performances of any Democrat candidate for nomination in the past 25 years. Even Walter Mondale did better and he lost 49 states.

This speaks to the reality of the situation.

Its like watching two terrible teams play each other in a sport. Sometimes nobody actually wins, but the other team just figures out a way to lose.

One terrible team. Hillary Clinton. She had all the rules rigged for her, celebrity status, MSM gushing, and full backing by unlimited amounts of Wall Street/Donor Class money. Yet she hasn't managed to take this thing home.

On the other hand, Trump has won the nomination. This despite having 16 competitors, rules used against him, the MSM attacking him every day, the GOP establishment against him, and paid agitators sent to his rallies to intimidate his supporters. Yet he won it hands down. i.e. This is a definition of a great team.
