And no less amusing fact: the prince of Novgorod made Kiev the capital of Rus(sia).

Alec, the history of our nations is so intertwined that I must make a lot of effort to consider them different.

History of Croatia and Serbia is so intertwined for example. It doesn't matter.

Rus is exist. It may have many names, but population, language and religion remain unchanged in general.
