maine is usually on the back end of the fashion curve
dungarees and old spice are still popular up here, but then again, the grey-hound looking models we see on tv-are definitely not a reflection of the women in maine....
they look un-healthy, and the other day to day fashion is a bit useless- we are more practical- most of us have gardens up here-chop our own wood, not afraid to get our hands dirty
I just observe other people, but I only wear what I like...I don't adopt looks I don't like just because they're in style...many styles are ugly. Mostly, I just stick to basics that neither come nor go, and update them with accessories.
I don't purposely dress in a dated manner, but I wear what I like, and if something's in style, but I hate how it looks (read: peplum, currently) no way am I adopting that look.
I live in the Midwest, so most people, even the most fashion-conscious, don't adopt the latest styles from either coast right away. Trends usually hit here a little later, and linger here quite a bit longer. People don't move on from styles here as quickly as they do on either coast, in my experience.
I read a lot of magazines, of all sorts, mainly for decorating and cooking and work out ideas, but of course those have fashion articles in them as well usually. Plus, I'm just observant.
That doesn't mean I actually go for what's "in style." (For instance, Ugg boots - UGH - never would I spend a penny on those and if someone gave me a pair I'd burn them.) I wear what I want to wear and I have a closet full of classic looks that I freshen up each year with a few trendy items. I mainly read fashion articles for ideas on how to use something I've already got creatively, or how to add an accessory in a way I hadn't thought of before.
I am totally into accessories. Most of my actual clothes (tops and bottoms) are neutral. Then I throw an awesome jacket or scarf or jewelry or even a hat with it and BAM - there it is!
Boots. Scarves. Vintage jewelry. Berets. A girl can never have too many of those.
I'm super tall and have a weirdly shaped body for someone of my height so I don't get the luxury of being trendy. I buy what fits and what I can afford and hope it doesn't fall apart to quickly.

I think based on today's fit models anyone with boobs has a "weirdly shaped body."
My wife and I do not worry about what is "IN". Not EVER!
Our major concern is "Is it comfortable?"
OK, western-style work boots, jeans, and flap pocket shirts are not "IN".
I don't care.
I am comfortable, that is what really matters!
