Funny, I'm FROM Florida and I call the business Publix or Publix Supermarkets, I don't know what the nit-picking is or even why? Is it because it irks someone? I mean who cares THAT much in order to malign another faceless poster? In places where the market is expanding like GA, AL TN nobody ever heard of the name just Publix (some thought it was a govt agency lol) so they marketed themselves by their name ! (Even on their semi trucks).

Trying to call someone out like they are doing something wrong on a silly forum is more odd than calling Publix Supermarkets, Publix Supermarkets, or Publix, Publix.

People are very very odd sometimes.

Notice the last two posts by accounts that decry those of us who are questioning the use of "Publix Supermarkets" were created in February 2021.

LOL. Because NO ONE calls it that.

"Hey honey, I'm heading out. Do you need anything from Publix Supermarkets?" Said no one ever.

Making sweeping proclamations is a bit odd. I do say that, and many of my associates here and especially outside of Florida where the company is much much less known and NOT homegrown do too.

Marketing changes, so does language...over time, some slow, some quicker, some never

For example only:

The (Great) Atlantic and Pacific Team Company became "A&P"

GENERAL ELECTRIC = "GE"

Federal Express became their in-company nick name "FedEx" (it was never referred to that outside the employees, and I know Fred Smith and he resisted the shortcut initially)

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES = "IBM"

General Motors = "GM"

General Motors Acceptance Corporation = "GMAC"

UNITED PARCEL SERVICE = "UPS"

Demonizing nomenclature is downright silly and boneheaded. Lots of people still say "I'll have a Budweiser" instead of I'll take a BUD". But who really cares? It is clear however, that our language has become lazy and inventive, a few years ago, saying that would not be "woke".

The spoken word is rarely the written word, especially in business. Print is rarely colloquial .

Again, the issue is NOT that saying or even writing "Publix Supermarkets" is a bad or weird thing. It's just uncommon, in both speech and writing by everyday people.

The issue is the plethora of newer C-D accounts, always in ardent defense of Publix, referring to it as Publix Supermarkets. The commonality of tone and language in the posts makes some of us believe that these accounts all belong to the same person.

I'm going to Publix right now. This one's produce section is actually pretty decent, and I need to grab a few things for dinnah!
(GF does say I spend way too much time and money at Publix and Whole Foods though LOL... Forever trying to convince me to start shopping at ALDI. Maybe one day.)
