If you're adverse to paying taxes and want to whine about lack of services, infrastructure or quality of schools as a result.... Florida is the place for you.

I don't honestly think that it is a Fair comparision to tell you the truth..Com is in Ashville which is more expensive then where we lived in South Charlotte, but I do agree with you on Liking both places and what makes more financial sense for people and families... Living in Florida 3 years this is our observation between the 2 States...living in South Florida is a bit different than living in other parts of Florida as well as NC..Florida has great weather, Alot of things to do, Great Restaurants, the Ocean if one likes that Our Kids attend schools we are extremely pleased with Academically, And no State Tax...I can't imagine anyone Not wanting to live in Florida but that is my Opinion....My BIGGEST Pet Peeve with South Florida would be the Pan Handlers and they are getting worse on each corner no matter where in the world you go....Bothers me to no end...Oh and the Drivers that puts the icing on the Cake But you learn to live with it..No place is perfect...Now Car Insurance in Florida well again Depending On where one lives its extremely expensive....

Florida and Sleaze well Every Place has sleazy people sorry to say.....Now NC we lived there for 2.5 ears and Very Big difference in Living and Cost of Living...You will get a much bigger home for a fraction of what you would spend in South Florida and the property Taxes on that home would be a fraction of what you would spend in South Florida as well...Again it completely 2 different Lifestyles......

Our Mortgage and Taxes on a beautiful home were lower than what we pay for rent and Its not Just Boca we have looked at Quite a few other other areas of South Florida and were not much Lower....Our Car insurance Very Low actually 1/2 of what Our Florida Car insurance is....Food is pretty much the same unless you shop at Walmart that is much cheaper here than in Florida..

Kyle I have to disagree you about the education in Florida Everyone loves to Bash it but as a family from Ny and been schooled in NY it is fine for our Children..
My Son is graduating HS with a 3.0 and has been and he has been very challenged and has great teachers and Will be Attending College next Fall....Our Daughter Thrives in the Middle School and well they have done Wonders for her to get her right on Track where she doesn't need the Extra Help Like she used too. NC does have Higher Taxes Yes and they have Services and a Very Good school system .....As far as Nyker's and yankees well I am one of those people and well I can tell you that charlotte is the 2nd capital of NY and NJ and FL for that matter or at least it just seems that way, Nothing wrong with it because most people look for a different or better quality of life than where they are living....You will find us Northerners Jus t about Everywhere....I will say Charlotte and at least where we live in Boca the schools are the same however the Reading , math and Science Scores here are well extremely High and more like the Northern States which is why People move to that Area as well....

Both places are great places to live and offer very different Lifestyles it just depends on what someone wants or is looking for....

My 2 cents,we have lived in North Florida now for 20 years. With exemptions afforded us our taxes are near 0,only paying rubbish and fire $380.We are comfortable in our 28 by 60 double wide on 1 1/2 acres fenced with 2 large out buildings, insurance reasonable at $580.We moved to present county for additional exemptions. We did live in 28 by 43 ranch previously and taxes were reasonable.

Don't forget you live in Boca Raton which is among a handful of above average to very good school districts in the state. There are 67 districts statewide of which maybe a dozen or so are at an acceptable level.

Kyle this is very true which was why we chose where we did....And honestly all states have their "schools" that are great and not so great and usually one pays a higher premium for those schools in some way...

Insurance rates in FL. You are lucky any insurance company does business in your pathetic state.

I would not be surprised to see many major auto insurers move out of the your state in the next few years. Considering your tort system, I would charge $3000 per year for a minimum limit policy. Insurers are tired of getting burned by your corrupt and ultra-liberal tort system.

You all are going to face an insurance crisis - you better get your legislature on board with some serious tort reform.......soon........or else. You think it's bad now? you get what you deserve.

Although this thread was started years ago it has been pretty entertaining. I was born and lived in NC for almost 30 years before moving out of state for a few years. I just moved to the Jacksonville, FL area last month.

Besides what has been outlined before another major tax difference is FL's auto sales tax is 7% whereas NC has a highway use tax of 3% which effectively acts as a sales tax. That is except for the fact that if you leave and return to NC later you have to pay the 3% tax again on the depreciated amount.

Climate wise you definitely get four seasons in NC, and the winters are usually mild. Unless you live in the mountains, snow in NC is rare enough that the threat of it will empty out the grocery stores and cancel everything around.

It's not much different in NC. The best districts are around high income/educated cities. The Chapel Hill school district is probably one of the best in the country. You can get yourself in the right zone in Raleigh though to attend a great school just like CH.
