thanks movingtohouston

Supper is still up for grabs; but I did bake an old fashion spice and raisin buttermilk cake, from an old recipe and it looks like it came out beautifully. Not a layer or frosted cake; I cooked it in a square cake pan and plan to just serve it plain, with coffee or tea. I was going to make gingerbread but this recipe caught my eye.

Roast Chicken with roasted root vegetables - parsnips, potatoes, sweet potatoes and turnip.
Sometimes old fashioned and traditional just hits the spot.

We are also doing roast chicken- bought one of those "set it and forget it "rotisseries they show on TV. Works great....mashed taters and gravy, hot rolls and salad.

I have two little game hens, never cooked em before but they were on sale. Got to look up a recipe

those root veggies sound good, but we had a heavy saurkraut and cabbage meal last night, maybe something lighter and fresher for tonight

Funny you should mention the "set it and forget it" rotisserie. We bought one a few years back, and it's been collecting dust in my pantry. I just mentioned to my husband that we need to break that baby out. Now, I'm not a big fan of roasted chicken/turkey (I hate the smell of it...yes, I'm weird). So, can anyone come up with other suggestions on what to make in it?

Any kind of roast! Pork, beef etc. A prime rib is wonderful cooked on a rotisserie. Goose and duck are also great cooked that way. I'm sure there has to be a recipe book that came with your rotisserie that can give you lots of ideas! Let us know what you make and how it turns out!

I too was going to say a roast. I have a rotisserie oven/convection...love this thing....best money I ever spent.
I can cook a 3-4 lb. roast -medium rare in 1 hour 10 minutes and so good. I do a spice rub early in the morning, pop it in a ziploc bag for the day and pop it on...tastes great but the smell is incredible!
