Probably Minnesota or Michigan, since they have decently-sized wilderness areas. Beyond that, I wouldn't even bother to rank them. The flyover states aren't suitable for discussion, IMO.
I honestly don't know why people like you come into threads like this just to say things like that......it's sort of hypocritical.

You also left out the Missouri river valley...another big valley in the Midwest. And the Midwest also does have mountainous areas...the Porcupine Mountains in Michigan, the unglaciated areas in Wisconsin, the Northwoods, and the Ozarks.
My favorites are South Dakota and Nebraska (current home and former home). Others I have been to and don't mind:
Iowa - Eastern Iowa is pretty nice. I enjoy visiting Iowa City and the Amana Colonies.
Missouri - Kansas City is okay. I'd like to visit the Ozarks and St. Louis some day.
Kansas - Haven't spent much time here, except for a couple short visits to Topeka. I'm sure there are other parts worth visiting.
Illinois - my experience here is a weekend in Chicago. It was fun for a few days but I'd never live there.
I haven't been to the rest, but I think I'd find something interesting in all of them.

Ya, you definitely need to visit the Upper Midwest. Lots of variety to take in the Great Lakes region.
I truly cannot understand the way you think, and this list just adds to my confusion!
