Here in Pittsburgh, PA I see a lot of plates from Ohio, West Virginia, New York, Virginia, and Maryland. I also see a decent amount of plates from Illinois, Ontario, Florida, and New Jersey.

Don't forget that you see a lot more cars from southern states than you think, but most do not have plates on the front, so you are less likely to notice them.

In Boston you see a ton of Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York, Connecticut and New Jersey plates. Lately I have been seeing a large number of Ohio plates and a good number of California plates.

Per my observations...

Pittsburgh

1. West Virginia
2. Ohio
3. New York
4. Maryland
5. New Jersey
6. Virginia
7. Illinois
8. Michigan
9. North Carolina
10. Florida

(From what I've heard, there's been an uptick in cars with Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana plates lately, due to the natural gas boom in the area.)

Athens, GA

1. South Carolina
2. Florida
3. Alabama
4. North Carolina
5. Tennessee
6. Virginia
7. Mississippi
8. Texas
9. Louisiana
10. Kentucky

For NY:

NJ, PA, MA, CT and VT >>> everyone else.

If youre in Western NY, id bet more Ontario plates and Ohio and less NJ and NE plates.

By the way, when I went to a family reunion in rural northern Missouri two weekends ago, I saw a fair number of out-of-state license plates. Here's the rundown:

Rural northern Missouri

1. Kansas
2. Illinois
3. Iowa
4. Texas
5. Nebraska
6. Indiana
7. Oklahoma
8. Colorado
9. Wisconsin
10. Michigan

North Jersey: mostly NY, occasionally FL or CA, and PA

South Jersey: NY and PA. It's the shore towns. New Yorkers think they own the place in the summer. And so do people from Philadelphia, way down the shore. Sometimes we have to remind them it's not their state
