Of the cities on the list, I have visited a little over half of them. I have lived in Denver and the Portland area (Vancouver, WA across the river from Portland)
I guess I would pick Portland, I would move back there without much problem. My family enjoyed what the area offered. You were only a short drive from walking on beaches of the Pacific, a short drive into the deep mountains. Shopping was excellent in the area. Many choices of dining from some fine dining to just a mom and pop style. The arts were there. Climate was nice. And really I didn't think the cost of living was out of line either.
I'm from Nebraska, and I think Meadville, NE should of been on the list! (an attempt at some sarcasm here)
Lets all come to a rational level. I don't think Omaha is everybody's perfect place, but it is certainly not 62nd. That is my point. I don't fool myself thinking Omaha is better than New York or Los Angeles in terms of attractions, and I've never compared Omaha to Indy. But the idea that we are 62nd in the nation absolutley astounds me, and I think anyone who has actually been here recently, would disagree with the logic in that arguement. Is Omaha at its peak? no. Is it a regional center? not unless you're talking Nebraska and Iowa. Is it nearly as large and tourist friendly as Denver or Chicago. Nope.
The person who mentioned the 62nd ranking was referencing a resource who rated it that way - they weren't making the 62nd ranking up. I used to lived in Omaha - still own property there, still have friends and family there, still visit frequently, so I do look at the Omaha and Nebraska threads here. What I have noticed is that people will gladly pick up on the "Kiplinger's rated Omaha 3rd" and take that as the avowed truth, but when they see other stats or rankings from other publications that do not reflect so favorably, then they disagree with them. Each publication has its own criteria, so I doubt any of us would agree wholeheartedly with every magazine, group, etc. who ranks cities. If we did, then every publication would probably have the exact same ranking of cities, and what fun would that be?
So there is absolutely nothing to say on how Jpimus completely stereotyped Omaha and Nebraska? Clearly he can Stereotype Nebraska, because we are all redneck hicks, we're to busy hunting and farming our corn to care.

Ah, we are on to opinions now are we? OK. Nebraska can be a bit on the boring side, but everybody I know from there are hard working and friendly. New York City in my opinion is the a-hole of the world, but some of the people I know who live there are still down to Earth and friendly, others are pompous asses who think everything and everybody who isn't from NYC is a redneck hillbilly. I can live with either of those opinions because I know what I think of others hometowns or home States doesn't matter one whit to anybody but me. I would sincerely hope my opinion of a place wouldn't color the judgment or feelings of somebody else on their place in the World. Just as somebody elses opinion of where I live, doesn't matter one tiny bit to me. I rather like it when somebody says they hate where I live because that is one more person I will not have to worry about coming into town and taking up space.
