During our last wind storm, one of the tall pines in a yard in the subdivision on the other side of me split and fell over my fence into my yard. My HOA contracted to remove the part on our side but couldn't touch the rest of the tree. I sure hope the rest of it doesn't come down tonight! A lot of the smaller pines are bent over with the heavy snow. Lost my satellite signal for a while, but it came back, and the power is still on (knock on wood). Can't wait to see your videos Christopher!
I can't believe I missed it. DOH! I'm here in Milwaukee on business and don't get home until tomorrow(hopefully). I skyped my wife and baby sonrise was eating fresh snow that my wife had gotten from out on the deck. We were talking over the webcam and my daughter handed the computer (me) a handful of snow to eat (isn't that cute?) I've been gone for 10 days and she was saying "snow" and "mama".
P.S. Skype is AWESOME!! Free webcam (well, you have to have the camera, of course) and long distance anywhere in the world and the picture quality is excellent.
Weather Channel reports Simpsonville has received 6.5 inches of snow so far and I say they are right. I've been out there driving in it, because I had to help a stranded family member.
Check out this map from the Feb 2004 snowstorm, kinda eerie how well the relative snowfall amounts matched up with the areas affected. The amounts in the 2004 storm were obviously greater overall, but it is amazing how the same area got more each time, and the same western areas received almost none.
Interesting comparisons to previous events as noted above. The "sweet spots" appear to hover I-85. Having lived in Oconee county in the past, it seems that this area receives less snowfall in recent events than other eastern areas - localized warming due to Lake Hartwell/Keowee/Jocassee?
