A winter storm warning remains in effect until 7 am est monday.
Rain will continue to transition to snow across the foothills and
piedmont of the western carolinas and northeast georgia this
afternoon. Once the transition occurs...several hours of moderate
to heavy snow are expected...with snowfall totals ranging from 3
to 6 inches. Locally higher amounts are possible where thundersnow
occurs.
The combination of sustained northeast winds of 20 to 30
mph...saturated ground and heavy...wet snow will down numerous
trees across the region. This will block roads and cause power
outages. Later tonight...temperatures will fall well below
freezing. While the snow will lay most deeply on grassy
surfaces...the freezing temperatures will result in black
ice...which will make driving very dangerous even where roads are
not snow covered.
A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected. Significant amounts of snow are forecast
that will make travel dangerous. Once the snow begins...only
travel in an emergency. If you must travel...keep an extra
flashlight... Food...and water in your vehicle in case of an
emergency.
It is snowing in Fountain Inn! We were happy to leave Erie, PA because of the snowfall there...our old home town has seen 141.6 inches this winter! They may break the all time record of 149.1 set in 2000-2001. We remember that winter all too well...We were up there last week for our son and DIL's baby shower, what a mess, ice cold, blowing snow terrible driving conditions......we do not miss it...but, this is pretty especially since it will be gone tomorrow. Enjoy everyone!

Ugh! The worst year for snow (some would say it was the best I suppose) in NW lower Michigan was 210". The average was around 120"-140". It's a treat to not see snow until Feb.!
