This tower will easily be over 750 feet tall making it one of the tallest buildings in downtown & the tallest structure to have gone up since the oil boom of the 80's.

Chevron's current tower is 725 feet tall.

Better downtown instead of some tacky office park in the suburbs. That said, I hope that's not the final rendering. Very bland and unappealing.

A lot of O&G companies have corporate separateness policies which cause them to keep a corporate office somewhere and their company offices in a different location. Chevron could be doing the same thing with SF and Houston, or if they eventually did move it to Houston - it may be a separate location.

Exactly - executives will stay in SF and manage corporate. The rest of the company will head to the new Houston office. It makes sense from many angles to operate from Houston, mainly lower corporate taxes, consolidating the company in one office complex (Louisiana St), lower cost of living for employees not to mention proximity to the center of the oil business.

However - I see Chevron keeping their headquarters in SF since they began as Standard Oil of California.

Great News, Houston! I'm just waiting for to AT&T build a new HQ tower in Dallas, since they have well over 5,000 employees in Downtown. Some of the buildings in the HQ complex dates back to the 1920s. Well, I can only dream......

I wouldn't have minded seeing a 50 story tower being built along the Energy Corridor or in Westchase just to see how much it would stand out. Sort of the way The Williams Tower stands out in Uptown. Even in Greenspoint it would have looked pretty cool.

With that said, this will be great for Downtown.
