Texas, what do you mean, "not to tear it down, but to take it to the ground".

so they want to tear down what was once the tallest building west of the mississippi, and what some still consider a landmark tower? bold move Chevron.. if they go through all of that should just build on the parking lot between Exxon and Chevron to keep their campus more tight knit.

From what I understand - they can't build on those parking lots due to the anchors from the Exxon building. I asked my friend (the one who called Shorenstein) what that meant "take it to the ground vs. tear down" and I was told that means stripping it all down basically to the skeleton of the building and then rebuilding it inside and out using the existing concrete/steel skeleton or whatever is under all that. Who knows - will be interesting to see what happens with that one in any case.

It isn't the tallest building west of the Mississippi though - historically it was at one time but several others have it beat now.

Renovating sounds good, but tearing it completely down that's a horrible idea. I hope Chevron doesn't do that. I mean if they want to build another tower why wouldn't they just build it on the empty block next door to their existing tower. The one surrounded by Bell, Milam, Leeland, & Louisiana with their nursery on it.

thats what ive been saying. do some "anchors" from ExxonMobil really prevent anything big from being constructed on that lot? that would be unfortunate.

From what I understand him telling me is that is the reason that those 4 parking lots surrounding it have always been parking lots because you can't dig down into the earth. Now if Shorenstein tears it totally down, then I bet those 4 parking lots disappear really fast. But really, who knows what will happen with that building or any of the block surrounding Chevron.

Actually, I imagine mainly glass, plastic, steel, copper, cement...which, to attempt to give you some credit, probably does taste quite disgusting if ingested.
