Absolutely! My family is new to this area and we were so impressed. After the hurricane, all of our neighbors in Sugar Land were outside cleaning up within a day. Houston is such a "get it done" city...except for mass transit, apparently, but no city is perfect.

There's a will to do it but too many NIMBYs that are well-connected in local politics. It's viewed as a bringer of crime in the rich neighborhoods and a bringer of gentrification in the poor neighborhoods.

In time though, it's gonna happen, and people are gonna get used to it. They might even come to like it.

One of the absolute best things about Houston!
And all this was happening when (most of us at least) still had no electricity, no a/c and spoiled food in the fridge.

Cowboys/Texans all-time series (in games that count) is 1-1, both unbeaten at home. Since the Texans have existed, neither has won a playoff game.

They're even IMO.

And Astros/Rangers? The Rangers can't even get there!

I'm sorry, I didn't realize it was the worst Houston storm in modern history.

D-towner, I was also here during Carla in 1961. That was a bad one too, but not nearly so damaging and incapacitating as Ike.

When does "modern history" begin? And forget Galveston for a minute - how exactly was Ike worse for Houston than, say, Alicia in '83?

Granted, with the surge Ike was pushing it'd have been a lot worse had it hit west and not east, and it wouldn't have made much of a difference in Galveston.
