Here's a thread about our dirt bike/quad ride along the south side of Lake Pend Orielle yesterday.
What a beautiful day! Thanks for taking us along. I got such a kick out of seeing the Clark Fork Valley pics --I was just wondering if the trees had started turning yet. Only here and there, I guess--it looks like when we were in CF in early October a few years ago.

Any Halloween plans, Porchers? We've decided to be grumpy adults and not do a thing this year--the year before last only two kids came trick-or-treating, and last year nobody showed up. We sat there with our candy and spooky courtyard and the works, and not one single kid! So this year, zip!

Do kids still go trick-or-treating in your neck of the woods? Maybe our neighborhood is too old--most of our neighbors have grown kids, few young families.

Funny, I was just coming here to ask about Halloween! We plan on taking our three year old out on Monday. I'm a little confused though about how it works here. Apparently you can go out trick-or-treating at any time during the day? That's new for us! Back in PA, there was a set time for trick-or-treating, usually in the evening from 6-8pm, and anyone who was giving out candy to the kids was encouraged to keep their porch lights on so the kids knew they could go knock at that house. So, my question is... since they can go at any time of the day here, how do the kids know where they can go or not? I don't want to go knocking on someone's door who isn't participating. Is it different in different areas?

Have not had any Trick-or-treaters around here. Course it is uphill for a mile so they would have to be motivated! It is a nice fall right now though;

We used to take the kids into Priest River. There were tons of kids and the homeowners there really got into it. My youngest is 16 now so we haven't been trick or treating in several years, but I assume it's still very hopping on Halloween. Who knows, though, with this economy.

Okay NID'ers, get ready for a road trip to the new Trader Joe's in Spokane! It opens on Friday. There will be crowds...better wait a few weeks!

Dreams of Trader Joe

The article has a list of typical TJ items. Is it all hype? No, they really do stock good items at a decent price. We've been shopping at TJ's for over 20 years, and we're relieved that we don't have to drag bags of snacks with us from SoCal next time we go home to Clark Fork!

Always was a TJ's fan. Happy that there's one in Spokane. I'll have to head over there and stock up on some of our favorite stuff...

Very weird Halloween--all the neighborhood kids apparently went to one street to go trick-or-treating, and nobody saw any kids anywhere else. Maybe their candy was of superior quality? Maybe from Trader Joe's? Personally I think the kids' parents are getting lazy down here--they don't want to walk/drive all over the place anymore, and they don't let their kids walk by themselves. So: One street!
