Of course. Dealing with US workers is just a paper work nightmare. You have to look at workers comp, insurance, sign contracts, if conflict they can put a lien on the property. They charge a lot more since they are "certified" by the state to strip an electrical cord or whatever. Then you have to deal with 1099s, risk of lawsuits and whatnot.

Much more attractive to hire a bunch of Mexican's outside Home Depot of course.

The problem is all the regulation - that has made it a deal killer. If US workers were allowed to work and not spend half the money or more on paperwork they would be more competitive don't you agree?

Redoing a bathroom in Miami with a licensed contractor with permits would run you 4,000 dollars just in labor. A trusted illegal maybe 1,000.

DEREGULATION IS THE KEY. Cash work with zero liability should be a legal option for US workers as well.

Those were not day laborer jobs. Even day laborers are stealing jobs from American construction and landscape workers.

It is the greedy employers that want them here, not most Americans.

Take your deregulation even further - end the confiscation of taxpayer money that goes to providing these cheap Home Depot type workers free public schools for their children that end up costing $12,000 each child each year for schooling, end the food stamps, WIC and Medicaid these dirt cheap workers require for their real living costs.

Hey -- then we can be just like a third world nation!!! Yippie! Those third world workers agreeing to do the day work for $50 a day can sleep on the sidewalks, their children can sell chicklets and go without expensive health care.

The whole problem with your proposition is that yes, it costs the employers of these illegals very very little because the illegal doesn't have to worry about paying for his family's health care, nor for their schooling. The illegal can get food stamps and WIC to cover the cap between wages and living costs.

We simply cannot keep bringing in the huddled masses and asking fewer and fewer American taxpayers to keep funding their Medicaid, food stamps, housing assistance - and also for the displaced American worker.

Illegals are cheap for their employer because the employer isn't paying the whole costs of them being here.

Whatever reference point you want to use.

The DOL sets the minimum salary they have to pay. 20k is not an option for a 60k job. They will need to pay a foreign worker 60k.

Foreign born - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If in fact 55 % of all PhD students are foreign born then how could they possibly take a job from a willing American?

Do you want them to lower the standards for engineering degrees so twice the number or US born people can graduate?

Do you want to completely ruin America's future and kill innovation?

As for some deadbeat redneck screaming about workers comp and disability insurance for some 2 week restoration work - I'll take the illegal Mexican ANY DAY.

But illegals aren't really taking those jobs that require a college education. That's more a legal immigration topic. And yes - if an American college graduate costs $60,000 a year, there is someone from somewhere you would take the same job for $20,000 a year which more than makes up for the cost of the legal work visa.

Well, illegal or not. This just describes how retarded your government is, something US citizens elected.

You have 4 options then:

Illegal with benefits
Illegal without benefits
Legal with benefits
Legal without benefits

If you are legal you have NO BENEFITS. If you lose your job you have to pack up and leave the country within 2 weeks. Legal with benefits would mean you have worked for 6 years and have a green card.

Why is your government giving benefits to illegals that are not provided to legals one might ask!

What redneck?

Are you using racist slurs to insult on here?

But if you are using that illegal Mexican and he's injured on your job, then you certainly should have to pay. Who else should have to pay for your dirt cheap worker?

I cannot comment on the effects of your retarded government in relation to a private agreement between me and a Mexican. If he shows up hungover and falls off the ladder it's his problem not mine.

But what if you had an unsafe (cheap) ladder and brought in this cheap foreign worker and he's injured while working on your roof because your cheap ladder didn't hold up? Why shouldn't you pay? You're the cause of his injury, you brought him here. Why should the taxpayers have to pay his hospital stay?

Or you didn't educate him properly on the safe use of ladders and roof work, you provided him no safety in education or equipment. You cannot just throw him away after you misused him.
