Some of this goes to regulation. Gaming Control mandates a certain level of coverage of the casino floor and gaming back of the house areas. AFAIK, there are no regulations mandating any coverage of non-gaming areas. The casinos only do this for management and liability issues.

From what I've seen, there are three or four people covering all the cameras. But all the cameras are likely recorded. I have heard that at some times, there's nobody watching them live at all.
In addition, the operators get tasked with watching specific things. Sometime they'll audit dealers to see if they're following procedures. I'm sure when drops are taken, the operators follow the drop as it moves across the casino. And if there's an issue on the floor (like a player contests a game result), the operators will replay the video to see what actually happened.

I haven't been to this forum in forever but I want to say how sad I feel that this happened. I am so pleased to see that at least one hospital is waiving charges for survivors and that Zappos will pay for all the funerals of the victims.

Actually this is not true. NVGCB does require some general coverage of the non gaming areas to investigate crimes and unsavory conduct going on in the casino. Casino bar and lounge seating, restroom entrances and general coverage of night club floors are of interest to gaming.

Gaming has been dueling with some of the clubs for a while. Drugs are the issue. And Gaming in Nevada is very close to omnipotent. Not sure that is really healthy. But therefore Nevada Gaming must follow US not NV law on Pot.

The staffing and specific duties of the surveillance dept varies at each property. Some properties have the department watch and investigate every thing. Other have help with Security and Table Games departments.

That is why they require the casino to have their own coverage of the club. While the club owners will have its own surveillance system also.
