My Ethnic German (4th generation American) grandpa was allowed to stay because his wife (my grandma) was from an old ethnic French family.
Then again, Grandpa was the only engineer who could keep the machinery running in the huge lead mine where he worked.
And that is in spite of the fact that his grandfather had fought alongside his fellow townspeople in the Civil War. Go figure.

My mom said that when the US joined the war, her lifelong childhood friends ostracized her for the duration, often calling her names (kraut, heinie, Kaiser kid, etc,). But when the war was over they did a complete reversal and befriended her again.
But she never forgot.
Ask Japanese families. Ask American Indian Families.

um, you have no idea.

People in other first world countries who do not like the US are not envious. This is totally BS. Have you ever left Tennessee?

People in poorer countries may wanna come to the US desperately to get a piece of the pie but they don't generally badmouth the US.

You sound a bit ignorant, you remind me of the people in Virginia where I lived for a while. They also think the US is the only country in the world that is worth living in and has electricity.

Ha. Yes I've left Tennessee. I've traveled most of the world. I lived in ultra-liberal West Hollywood for a couple years, does that satisfy you?

People who slam America want to live here, generally speaking.

If you think these smug Europeans don't want out of their cramped, tax haven, (in many cases) cold and rainy craphole countries to come here where there's virtually every and any weather pattern and landscape, buy a huge Suburban and enjoy $1.50 gas and the V8 power, and drive it on our huge roads and enjoy our huge country, and have guns, you're delusional.

Keep in mind Europe is safe because of us, while they smugly tout all their precious socialist safety nets and bash America.

I am a German immigrant and have never experienced any bad treatment in the US. Not on the East Coast, not in the South, not in the West, nowhere. Sometimes people think I am a Russian mail order bride but that's fine, I take it as a compliment.

Everyone has friends/family/German name/some sort of heritage in Germany or at least a favorite German soccer team and they always bring that up once they hear where I am from. Also, unbelievable, how many Americans claim to be German, yet they have never been there.

I think it is funny that people who immigrate want to be American and people who are born here want to be from somewhere else.
Having perfected beer, hamburger, and various sorts of hot dogs, Germans are almost more American than Americans, if you get what I mean.

At work we have more than a few European immigrants, many who came in on that "genius worker" visa, and, unsurprisingly, they are whip smart and great workers. All are well liked by peers and by management, because they are great workers and great people.

Have only spent a few days in Germany, I really liked it there. The no speed limit Autobahn where in like 5 days I saw exactly 2 bonehead moves (one car crossed from the fast lane to an exit, one air cooled Beetle with a guitar neck hanging out the driver's side window, cruising like 50 MPH in the slow lane where the rest of us were doing close to 80.) And the beer, and the food, and the coffee.

The area around Houston, TX is more German than most people who have never been there realize. And I enjoyed the culture around there as well. I think Chicken Fried Steak is about the same as Weinerschnitzel.

You are twisting my words.
I mentioned my race+ethnicity not because I expect privileges for it, rather because I get targeted for it by certain groups (including you), as I clearly explained it in my earlier posts.

I think a lot of your "discrimination" is an excuse for yourself when someone else gets a job you personally see yourself more qualified for it.

That's all cynicism and blaming the victim.
And twisting my words again, which is a form of bad faith behavior and lying. Why dont you just leave my thread, and keep your personal attacks to yourself.

I recall a Dutch woman once complaining that she has to go through all these immigration channels just like everyone else. (Well your irrelevant Dutch highness, YOU ARE JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE)

I am not attacking you, I am simply making you aware that this is a competitive country and a meritocracy, you can achieve what you want, but YOU HAVE TO BUST YOUR BUTT FOR IT. America nor the people here owe European immigrants anything.

Your theory of Americans hiring foreigners of color first, then Americans, the white Europeans, it's in YOUR head.

No one here cares about where you come from, IF you are profitable and useful for growth, then you will be wanted, if not, no one cares about anyone's stories or claims to fame.

The USA is VERY competitive and if you cannot compete with all those coming here to work in specialized fields, then maybe you should move to Germany or some EU country with a different system.

“If you are profitable and useful for growth, then you will be wanted”

Right there buddy. Not sure how many times I’ve seen employers, etc bypass a black persons because their presence would hinder growth and profitability. And those people swore up and down about how not racist they where. They rationalized it as doing what you got to do to make it and survive.

Sorry, but your synopsis is for white Americans and maybe the talented 10% of x minority group. That’s not meritocracy, that’s the court of the crazy king.

Why you ask are we such a successful empire. Luck, WW2 and exploited foreign labor, with luck being a little more than Arabs sitting on top of oil, but still luck.
