Scandinavian countries are freer, more open and more competitive than the US, and they have a higher quality of life than the US.
They're slurred as "socialist", but they are more capitalistic than the US in many respects. Even their post offices are private!
I lived in 3 European countries, and now in the US. US has higher quality of life, for those who are willing to take the extra mile for their own prosperity and have talent.
If you like Europe so much, move there permanently!

Did you live in 3 SCANDINAVIAN countries?
They're way better (in terms of quality of life) than the US or other European countries.

My wife is a Dane. We think that The US and Denmark each have positives and negatives. Neither is way better than the other in everything.
One way Denmark is worse, and not free-er, is immigration. It was easy for her to move to the US after marrying me. It is virtually impossible for her to bring me to live in Denmark though. Further, they just took our daughter's citizenship away for the crime of turning 22 years old. She can get it back by moving there for 1 or 2 years, but that is silly. She shouldn't have to do anything to keep it. Anyway, that's an example. There are worse stories in the Danish press, if you pay attention to their news.

So there are harmful side effects to keeping out riff-raff. Sounds better than the US system to me overall.

Some countries don't allow dual citizenship, or have rules limiting it in certain ways. The US used to not allow it at all. These things can change over time.
Apparently, the Danish government doesn't consider someone born and raised in the US without living in Denmark at any point, to be a Dane. As a child of a Danish parent, they allowed her Danish citizenship, because she wasn't responsible for her circumstances. Now she is, they figure, no longer being a child, so they want to see her demonstrate interest in her heritage country before the extend citizenship to her. Interesting.

There were changes in 2014/2015 allowing to apply for dual citizenship and reinstating forfeited Danish citizenship. Deadline is August 2020.
My wife is Eastern European (Ukrainian) and has had a terrible experience, at least since we moved to Georgia, mainly by African-Americans.
