She didn't teach my mother because she wanted her to assimilate and be American, not exist as a minority culture forced to watch The Love Boat on SAP (heh, I have lots of memories of that as a kid). That's what happens when you limit immigration and let the melting pot work. Hopefully that happens again soon.

Do you know anything about how Garden City came to be? Read up on it and then you might understand why there were never any rentals to begin with.

Who cares how things used to be? A new day is here and in this country the majority rules.

Why is it that immigration rules have been so lax for so long?

So Farmingdale gets a Starbucks while here in Westbury we get more Human Waste that just sits around town all day drinking Modelo. But we're not a rich neighborhood so we don't get the good stuff, we get the garbage.
So unless the garbage stops getting dumped here (and carted out like it should be), and we have waves of revitalizations that help everyone, it will only become more like Brazil.
There's nothing wrong with culture, but when it starts hanging around treating your streets & towns like toilets, its no longer culture, it's garbage.
If a person is on social programs and is housed in Westbury, what does that make them?

You're one of those types who is content not to learn from the past. In short: easily malleable by politicians to follow them blindly.

A U.S. Citizen?? I know folks like us don't "deserve" to live in happier places, I get it.
Perhaps if you were born with a chemically imbalanced brain, nerve defects, and a body prone to breaking down like a NICE Bus you'd have a different view of things.

Uh no, we live in a constitutional republic with checks and balances, not a straight democracy. Simple majority does not rule here. You are right that a new day may be coming but it may not be what you are hoping for.

And if you were born dirt poor in a drug war battle zone and wanted something approaching a future, maybe you would think differently, too. just saying.
