....except for anything “essential”. The devil is in the details about what is considered essential.

It would be awfully nice if there were temporary OSHA rules to keep the workforce reasonably protected but that’s not gonna happen in this political climate. Instead, it falls on the states and that is going to be really variable.

Seems like everyone in boston wants the same thing... single family with yard and home office

"Regionally, Boston saw the highest share of bidding wars, with over 63% of*offers written by Redfin agents on behalf of their customers facing competition. San Francisco and Fort Worth, Texas, were not far behind with rates of 63% and 62% respectively. San Jose, California., and Providence, Rhode Island, rounded out the top five."....

70% of the country lives in single family homes. There is nothing unusual about metro Boston.

Condos were extremely popular in Boston for most of the 2010s. I mean it was shocking to see how much people would pay for them in unsafe sections of Dorchester.

Unsafe for who exactly? The vast majority of urban crime is largely amongst criminals. If you are in a gang or use drugs or sell drugs then yes your chances are dramatically higher.

Maybe violent crime, but burglary, car break ins, stuff like that happens pretty indiscriminately.

I wouldn’t want these people as my neighbors especially if I’d paid 650k for a 1 or 2 bedroom condo. Apparently some people don’t mind if a shooting happens down the street from them. I’m not those people but I also have kids.

Americans are caught between two hostile forces - the pandemic, and financial ruin. For many, there is no safe harbor.

Story: Millions of people lost their jobs in hard-hit New England. Many fear their homes could be next.

"With unemployment skyrocketing -- and some federal financial aid weeks away from running dry -- millions of local residents newly find themselves at risk of prolonged financial hardship, perhaps even staring down the once-unfathomable prospect of homelessness. Despite the U.S. government’s efforts to halt evictions and extend $3 trillion in aid, many say they fear falling behind on their rent or mortgage and lack the means to put off some of those payments until their bank accounts -- and the broader economy -- are in better shape."

“If we don’t see a dramatic resumption of employment, and we don’t see an extension of those unemployment insurance benefits, then the scenario quickly looks much closer to our worst-case scenario,” said Jeffrey P. Thompson, a vice president and economist at the Boston Fed.
