Yep. I think 5 schools in Grand Rapids are closed for five days this week now (each with one confirmed case I believe).

Well heres the thing is this Flu any more of a bug deal than any other thing that goes through schools. My sister in law who lives in the Flint area said her son has the flu and his class of 17 kids had 6 today. Her daughter who is fine her class had 10 out. Both younger than 7. So is the school closed if this is just the stomach flu. No parent wants their kids to get sick with anything but it is going to happen.

Getting sick is part of growing up. It is how we develop immunities. If we kept our kids from ever getting sick, they will catch everything and die as adults.

Yes!! They must have received my not so kindly worded email.

Michigan health officials: School closings no longer necessary due to swine flu - Grand Rapids News - The Latest News, Blogs, Photos & Videos – MLive.com

This is the best part:

Holzman said the new recommendation is partly in recognition that, although the H1N1 virus is contagious, it so far is no more severe than the regular seasonal flu.

So I guess I was, thankfully, wrong about the swine flu. It could still mutate, but right now is no more severe than the average flu.

I want them to admit that it was never necessary. That they overracted and took action without thinking or collecint the information needed to make an informed decision. I also want to hear that that 1.5 billion the feds appropriated is being returned. What a bunch of ninnies.
