KSTP TV news just showed corn fields that got hit by the frost.

The corn looks yellow instead of green.
It will come back, but this cold weather slows the comeback.

It is a little early to have planted too. I know the truck farmers down the road from us had little Styrofoam protectors (like you use on rose bushes only really small) on everything that is above ground. Usually they are only planting about now so things are up too soon.

There really isn't "consistency" to a continental climate. Except for late June to early August and late December to early February, it's either generally getting colder or warmer.

I just heard that May is running something like four or five degrees below average. Maybe some average weather about now is what we'd like.

The next several Twins games could be canceled.

Twins games won't be cancelled unless it storms or snows (unlikely). It won't get cold enough for a cancellation, besides, the forecast for the next week or so starting tomorrow has temps increasing all the way into the low 80's early next week (source: weather.com). I am still going to stick with my prediction that this summer could mimic the summer of 2007 (20+ >90 degree days).

I hope you're right.

Crops in Minnesota had a hard time maturing in 08 and 09 due to the cool summer.

Gotta have GDU ( growing degree units ) in summer/

I'm sick of that argument too "We need the rain"

How much damn rain do we need? It's been raining off and on for 5 days and we still need rain? Maybe if all the suburbanites didn't water their lawns non-stop water wouldn't be such a problem

Jesus dude. Have you ever heard of forestry and agriculture? It's not just about keeping lawns green. We've been dry for the past year. Northern Wisconsin and the UP are especially dry.

No, I used to work in the biz though. And I've heard the same story May-September every single year. "We need the rain" Minnesota apparently has been in the world's biggest drought for ever. Apparently Minnesota is an arid desert now. I don't get how it can rain all the damn time and people still say we need water. We live in an area of over 10,000 lakes, with snow in the winter, and rain for the past week and we STILL need rain?

Every spring "flooding" is a huge problem, but even with that large sum of water, it's still to the point where "We need the rain"

What do ya'll want, a rainforest?

And it's the age old saying that farmers always have sore necks - from staring up at the clouds... So whatever, agriculture and forstry will always need rain whether it just got done raining for a week or not
