I couldn't rep you, but wanted to post how I agree. Tv is no better. I like the occasional comedy sitcom but most of the ones I like are older now. I think t.v. has become an influx of cop shows. My god how many CSI type shows can we see. Enough already. And don't even get me started on the dumb down youthful worshipped effect of reality crap, err, I mean tv. Just constant garbage being filtered onto our t.v. sets. Tv for me anymore is all about sports (I truly don't know what I would do without sports) and some of the newer reality crime shows. Beyond that I could care less about any of the others, ex The Kardashians (wow watching rich spoiled priveledged brats go shopping everyday and get opportunity after oportunity, the Jer k off shore-seriously, Mtv fake world, Dancing with the botards, basketball wives-this has to be a new low (who the f ck cares! about these people. Then there is the best show of all time Paris Hilton's best friend. I must admit that is classic. I hope to god you saw the sarcasm in that. I will admit, I do respect two reality shows. The biggest loser. Although I don't watch it, I respect what they are trying to accomplish. And I do watch the Ufc fighter-but in my eyes that falls into sports..That's it for me.

Mostly sick of all the movies out there that have little substance and tries to make up for it through excessive use of special effects. Movies like these have existed in the 80s, 90s, 00's, and today although they're proportions have been gradually growing..

That's all changing right now. For example, revenge, pan am, modern family. Depends on the station you watch.

Hollywood has overpriced actors and simpy plots so everyone can understand.
I view French, Italian, and German movies.

Well, I don't know if they are not as good as in time gone by but I have to say that there are hardly any that interest me any longer that I cannot wait for them to be offered on NetFlix. And there I mostly order old TV shows.

With the price of movies at the theaters, I have to really, really want to see what I am paying for.

I agree with the op.
Very little that has been put out since the early-mid 90s has been worth a damn.

Wth happened? Movies used to be awesome. Or you'd have a multiplex and at least 2 of the 10 movies they were running were good. Now I can pull up my local cinemark and there is not one single decent thing on.

I agree with the OP. But I think movies AND tv have gone down the crapper. I find myself watching Little House on the Prarie and Frasier reruns. And I actually find myself laughing (at frasier not LHOTP). IDK when I actually laughed at a "comedy" recently.

I also agree with the PP who said not to spend your money on these dumb movies. My DH loves all the comic book movies but I refuse to go to the theater with him to see them based on my principles. I hate how they are marketed to small children (and teens) but they are not at all appropriate for small children, IMO.

For one the quality of movies suck. What is the deal with constant remakes? With the exception of a few, most are hard to take. They are rarely bareable to watch simply because for many of us they don't come close to the original and for thoses who have seen the original it is hard to not constantly compare them while viewing.
Enough of the remakes already.
Start taking some of those good movies scripts off the shelves and get some intelligent thought provoking movies out there.
It seems to me like the movies of the eighties and nineties where much better. More plot to them and just better in almost all areas.
I personally can't take most of the crappy action movies being pumped out left and right. It feels like their all the same. I'm not to into big budget movies. You can spend all the money in the world on special effects, but if the movie lacks an adequate plot then I will be be bored to death.
And last but not least, enough of all of these cheasy cheaply made, awfully plotted horror movies. My god when does it end? I've never seen so many stupid rediculous horror movies being pumped out in the last decade than at any other time.
I take back the last but not least, because darn it, I'm on a roll.
Hollywood--wake up. Enough cartoon or kid movies. I get it, they are moneymakers. But when half the movies to view at any given mall is for a ten year old or younger you are losing your mature audience.
Stop dumbing down movies. Most of us don't need or want a cheesy car chase in a movie. Start putting out intelligent movies. Take a risk. Isn't that what hollywood is about? I think that they cater to much to knuckleheads and kids. If you put intelligent movies out there adults will come.
I truly think that hollywood is losing its mojo as far as movie producing. The product is not the same as yesteryear and the results are showing by attendance in theatres.
As someone who loves movies, please stop putting out this regurgitated crap and cheesy remakes. Give some of us Americans a little confidence that if you make a good film we will notice and come see.

rant over.

Thanks for listening.

Yes, BUT...

I wonder how much of a movie buff you are if you only - as your post implies - rent movies for home. Unless of course you live in a small town with no theaters.

While I agree that there is an enormous amount of crap, it often seems to be that this complaint is made by people who make no effort to see the really good movies that come out. An easy instance was Frozen River, which was great, but seen by very few people. Right now, The Guard is great, but not seen by many people.

But in the final analysis, the crap prevails because it's what people want. If you look at the biggest grossing movies (which never used to be part of the daily news until lately), they tend to mostly be crap. If people went to see the better movies, then better movies would be made.
