Ron Bushy is / was Iron Butterfly's drummer. When Inna Gadda Da Vida came out I ran, not walked, to the record store to buy it. I had heard the title song just once and I loved it. It's also the only track on the album that I can remember. I was a sophomore in HS at the time and that album kept me company many nights while doing homework, or trying to at least. Sold my copy of it later in life to pay the rent or some silly thing like that. Three cheers for thinking of him, jdavid!
I always thought it would be cool to see who is the best in these positions so i'll start for those interested.
Best Lead Singer... Steve Perry............Journey
Best Guitarist........ Eddie Van Halen.......Van Halen
Best Bass ............ Steve Harris ...........Iron Maiden
Best Drummer ...... Nearl Peart............. Rush
Thats my favorates....
Dude I've been a musician for over 30 years and I was getting ready to complain about your choices till I read them............I agree with every one.
Hard to pick a true "best," but here are the greats:
Lead Singers
Roger Daltrey of the Who
Freddie Mercury of Queen
Sting of the Police
Lead Guitar
Pete Townshend of the Who
Jimi Hendrix
Andy Summers of the Police
Greg Allman of the Allman Brothers
Bass
John Entwistle of the Who
Sting of the Police
Jack Bruce
Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (I confess I don't really care for the Chili Peppers' music, but Flea is a phenomal bassist)
Drummer
Keith Moon of the Who
Stewart Copeland of the Police
In terms of sheer musicianship, you'd be hard pressed to find more impressive rock bands than the Who and the Police.
greg allman doesn't play lead guitar but speaking of the Allman Bros. Butch Trucks is a very, very good drummer and most under rated.
Keyboard favorites: but no longer with us ~~ Warren Zevon, Nicky Hopkins, Billy Preston, Count Basie, Duke Ellington
Still with us ~~Leon Russell, Ray Manzarek, Dave Brubeck--and doesn't Greg Allman play keyboards ?(but his vocals are what's memorable to me)
Zevon was/is my all-time favorite
Cil has some goooooood taste
Warren Haynes has been called the best lead guitarist by Guitar Player Magazine for many years. He has Govt. Mule and also tours and records with The Allman Bros..
Dicky Bets was/is amazing with a guitar but was voted out of the A.B.B. in late 2001 because he was very difficult to deal with.
Come to think of it A.B.B. has always had great guitarists.
