I have a PA license to carry. It took about 30 minutes to get only because someone was ahead of me renewing their license.

[quote=PDD;25798251]As a 65 year resident of NJ I never felt the need to own a gun although I did have a BB gun for scaring away the deer but that never worked.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The NJ laws apply to even BB guns now!

Never had any friends with "legal guns". but a few nut case friends always managed to have some.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The "nut cases are the people who don't recognize and respect the rights of others.

A phone call to the local police always resulted in a quick response if assistance were needed.
Just never felt the need to own or carry.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most guns are used for sporting purposes, but if you have a home invasion, do you think the police will be of any help. Actually the police are practically worthless; only about 2% of violent crimes are solved and the police have no significant effect on crime.

Now that I live in NC it is a whole different story. Everybody owns guns and anybody who want to carry probably does. So what does this do to the mentality of the general population knowing that almost everybody else is armed?
People like myself who never needed a gun now all of a sudden knowing that the guy walking down the road could be carrying and at any time could turn his weapon on me are now buying guns for "protection"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You really think that someone walking down the road will pull out his gun and shoot you just for the hell of it?

Pretty much.. pathetic if you ask me. They just need to look around and see no one in uniform and know they are safe. Disgusts me.

Our cities can be violent, but overall the gun-toting states have much higher crime rates (FL & TX). I guess their gun owners are just too lazy down there.

And NYC, with super-strict gun laws (right Plaxico?) may have its lowest homicide rate in recent history in 2012.

I don't know about you guys.. but if you look at the cities with the strictest gun laws.. guess what they also have? You guessed it, highest murder rates in the country by criminals (because they follow those gun laws oh so well).
