its unfortunate that promises were made that cant be kept without screwing over today's taxpayers. but i am not willing to pay for the promises that never should have been made to begin with. pension obligations are going to have to be cut severely at some point. the sooner action is taken, the less pain there should be. but just like our national debt, local debt, entitlements, etc. no action will be taken until there is absolutely no choice.
You're on a roll... and I'm mostly agreeing with you.
I agree with that last line. Do you know that the teachers pension only needed a 4% employer contribution. If that was made we would not be having this discussion. Miss a 4% payment for 20+ straight years and it becomes a problem.
And we all know who started that.....and who the hell benefitted from it. Now we want to screw over the state employees twice.
I think ppl don't realize that state employees contribute to the pension AND pay insurance. And it's not a minuscule amount.
tahiti- you are correct most people have no idea about the pension and how it works. I posted here before that the politicians and early retirees will not be hurt by the pension reform. Plus the State pushed their contribution down the road. If you are familiar with what they did it is a farce. The two groups that bear the cost -teachers and state workers had nothing to do with missed contributions, pension spiking, double dipping or retiring before they are 50.
