That all New Orleanians are illiterate, pig-headed smart alecks that can't tell A from B from C, twist people's words around, and treat anyone with an education level higher than a GED as if they know less than them. Sure, these types on the CD forum, but they do NOT represent all of the locals.

I get a little bit annoyed by people who think that life is radically different in any major American city. Whether you're in California or Kansas City, most people live pretty much similar lives. We rush out the door to get to work on time. We watch the same shows on tv. We have the same sort of family problems. We are doctors and accountants and fast food workers. If you want to go someplace where life is radically different, go to a developing nation.

I think you're talking about rudimentary factors of "everyday life" as opposed to radically different cultural components. A young girl from the Amish country visiting a relative in Venice Beach, CA would probably be rocked a bit. In that vein, New Orleans is one of those "radically different" cities.

This may not be as annoying as it is just silly, but I always kind of chuckle when people say that New Orleans is inundated with Voodoo and witchcraft...I mainly hear this while in Shreveport, TX

Vegas needs to start a good deal like this. ( Pssst - this place is 'gauronteed' super authentic - pass it on The Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV | OrleansCasino.com )

So if New Orleans isn't pronounced "N'awlins" how is it..."Knew Orlens"?
I'm eating sweet potato pie and catfish for breakfast today - just like all y'awl!
