I now receive disability and need a place of my own to live. Should I be discriminated against because my credit has been ruined by my disability? I have worked since I was 13yrs old and now am 60. If they say I need a guarantor I have people who will back me because they know what I have been through.
You make a valid point. However, what about the person who is not fortunate enough to have a guarantor. The field then becomes uneven and unfair. Everyone is on an even playing field based on his or her own merits when a guarantor is not allowed. As I said earlier, when you get your credit back to good health, then reapply to the lottery apts that will be available at that time. Unfortunately, not everyone can qualify at all times. But, I do wish you the best.

A lot is uneven and unfair in life. Having a guarantor doesn't make the field fair and even. And not everyone is on an even playing field based on their own merits. People lost homes because of unfair practices and greed. People lost jobs because of the same. Health care in our country can wipe you out completely. How are elderly and even some young supposed to get their credit back to a health state if you have, no income, no home, no family, or any one that cares. Could you really be that closed minded that you wouldn't give people a chance to have a decent place to live because of circumstances beyond their control? I know someone that has been homeless for 3 yrs and goes from place to place, has very little income. Thank God the health care system treated her for two heart attacks, gall bladder removal and other health issues. But couldn't someone like this heal and live a better life and have better health without the worry of where to live and how to cook and eat? She can't work to improve her credit. She doesn't even have a stable address. At one time like myself she was extremely well off. If I didn't have a family to take me in where would I be? It is very expensive to live in this city and low income housing is all some of us have a hope of getting into. So please try to look at the circumstances from all points of view

Has anyone who is not on a disability been called in for an interview or heard anything? How many people usually get chosen for the lottery?

From what I understand, everyone gets "chosen" but in a particular order being the log numbers that you hear everyone discussing.

Im sorry you feel the need to give me the history of many others. I too know many people who have struggled and over time brought themselves back to the point in which they needed to. I know people who have rented in SROs, or have been in a roomate situatioin in order to have a place and get their lives back together. Then be able to move on and follow their desires. It is possible for everyone to get their credit back to good health as it may take awhile. So, I wish you that and good health.
