If the cops arrested them instead of baiting fare jumpers our rides would be a bit more approaching tolerable.
Well, it basically is a sales pitch. The "con" in "con artist" is short for "confidence". They're giving you a sales pitch to gain your confidence enough to give them money. And, yes, when you've ridden the subway for an extended period of time you do catch on the usual pitch themes - like the "basketball team" for example.

Well, I doubt anyone is going to read til page 38 (I think I made it to 25 or something), but, as a woman, I have found that the men with the best manners on the subway are Hispanic and the worst are Asian. That is all.

Its because we hope that 1 chance of being nice to a lady will equal in potentially getting laid.

There's this "homeless" guy on the R train that always panhandles with a fake limp and slurred speech. All he does is untuck his shirts to make himself look messy. Everything is brand new and his sneakers cost more than mine. I'm surprised people give him money at all!
This guy is still around. He just sticks his hand out to everyone. I did see him start screaming one day---no slurred speech, of course---to no one.

There's this one girl I see all the time who goes through her entire toilette on the train.
I was going to mention this since I don't think anyone else did. Love the people who spend the entire train ride as their own personal make-up artist.

What about stairwell etiquette?

Shouldn't the people who are going up leave one width empty on the left for people to come down? In this case I kind of forced people to move by being a bit aggressive, because I was in a hurry and wanted to catch the train that was in the station. I did make it, but if I had waited for the sea of people to exit, I might not have.
I'd like to add in another stairwell etiquette item. I love the people who cannot wait until most people filter out (so what, a few minutes) before they start carrying some big item---carriage, bicycle, boxes---up a very crowded stairwell. It boggles my mind when I see someone with a carriage carrying their baby up the stairs with throngs of people. I would be terrified to do that, since all you need is someone in the huge crowd to accidentally knock into you and there it goes...Same for the slow walkers/someone with a cane/crutches/etc.

Other things that may or may not have been mentioned:
-People falling asleep on you. I have had to shoulder people multiple times because of this.
-People who take their big items (bike, stroller, etc) and instead of going to the back/front of the train where it's clearly less crowded, going to the center of the train/most crowded car.

Other lovely experiences I have had---aside from the typical singers, beggars, stinky homeless, etc:
-Guy going through a porno on the train.
-Guy who was 500 pounds (not exaggerating) getting on the 4/5 train and then proceeding to squeeze into a seat where three people were already sitting on the one side of the bar, forcing one of them to get up.
-Homeless guy gets on the train with this very long hair and starts to brush it for the next twenty minutes. Stuff is flying out everywhere...
-Woman getting on the train in the Bronx heading down to Brooklyn starts screaming. As she walks by, she is blaming the white man for everything, gets about two inches from my face and calls me a white *****. Then keeps walking and screaming, staring at me, and gets off of the train.
-Ah yes the lovely pile of feces someone left upon exiting the train that smelled so badly (for the next two weeks) that it was comparable to rotting flesh.

This week I had to take the subway twice and I thought about this thread, so here is a short list of the people whom I would love to douse with a gallon of my asparagus scented urine.

1. Little old asian ladies who run onto the train before letting other passengers get off and push through everyone in the hopes of getting a precious seat. And when they don't get one, they pull the "I'm old and fragile" face to try to guilt you into giving up yours.
Fvck you lady...I saw you hurdle over the other passengers with the agility of Jackie Chan. That old, decrepit song and dance isn't going to work on me.

2. Overweight people that think they can squeeze their fat ass into a seat on a train that wouldn't fit an anorexic supermodel. Look, I'm a guy, and I'm not one of those a$sholes that has to aircondition his nutsak by spreading his legs out across three seats, so there is no need for you to huff and puff that you can't get your fat ass onto the seat next to me.
BTW, Stop eating so many burgers!!!!

3. Those as$holes that position themselves at the doors of the train so they can be the first person off. That's fine and dandy with me, but, hows about standing aside to let some of us on the train to begin with? You obsessive compulsive fvcks...the world isn't going to come to an end if you aren't the first one off the fvcking train!!!!

That's all for now, but I'm sure I will have more.

Bumping this thread for the newest subway sensation...

The MAGICIAN.

Yes, on the 5 train last night, a "spell caster" made his way onto the train at 86/Lex with his box-o-fun (supported by a dolly, by the way). It was every magic show you see at a 10 year old's birthday party - complete with the bird out the hat, a puppy and a somewhat overfed rabbit appearing in a glass box. And, of course, not to forget his final trick, trying to get money to disappear from passengers' pockets.

He exits the train at 125/Lex while many in the car discuss the legitimacy of said tricks as we head into the Bronx.

I was amused.

I'm sure some of these have been posted before but my main annoyances are:

1- Arrogant and rude Asians that plow their way through the train looking for a seat. Can someone explain to my why these people are so rude? It is not the Asians that were born here but the ones that don't speak a lick of English and act like they own the train. Not to mention these people bring in all kinds of food on the train and stink up the place.

2- Break dancing kids. They come on the train shouting "Its Showtime, showtime" then blast that crappy music and bounce around like they are on PCP. It really makes for a annoying ride home.

3- The inconsiderate jerk that doesn't slightly move over when you are trying to sit down. I experienced this again last night. I was getting on the train and I noticed a spot next to this black woman who had her bags next to her feat. When I tried to sit down next to her she didn't budge. She had plenty of space but didn't even flinch. So I got up, gave her a dirty look and walked to the other side of the train and sat next to someone else.

4- Lazy asses that get off at the very last second. People need to be aware that you need to be prepared to get off the train when you are about to get to your stop, not when you actually get there. People are waiting to get on and if you are not ready when people are getting on you are going to get pushed back. I don't care for these idiots. I actually push them back when they try to get through me. I don't care who is in my way, be ready or I will push you back.

5- People that stay in one spot on a crowded train and don't move. These people don't bother moving or making space when people are trying to get on a train. I usually whack them with my book bag.

6- People who do not put their back packs, large purses or bags on the floor. Seriously, if you bump me one more time with your bag I am going to retaliate.

7- People that feel that they are entitled to a seat that is right in front of you. This happens to me often and it's usually this woman that I see on my morning train. Any time someone that is sitting in front of me gets off the train I should have dibs on their spot. This one beeatch that stands in back of me or 3 spaces over will come shoving people out of her way to get that seat. I usually don't say anything because at that time in the morning I'm half asleep. Just wait till someone tries this when I have one of my not-so-good mornings. I will literally toss them off the seat.

There are many more things that people do on a train that bother me but I can't think of them at the moment. I really try to go out of my way not to inconvenience people on a train. I always give up my seat to elderly, handicapped or pregnant women. I ALWAYS place my book back between my legs while on the train. I ALWAYS get off the train when its crowded and I'm by the door so that others can get out. I can honestly say I am very courteous. I hate it when others are not and I do let it be known. Screw these aholes.

We should take video or pictures and upload them to a site for everyone to see. Hopefully the culprits will find themselves on there and start feeling some shame
