Apart from their frequent barking, dogs are a man's best friend, can't talk, won't sue, and are obedient compared to human kids. You never have to take puppies/dogs to school.

Now if your point was that it's easier to own a pet and be single than raise a child without a partner, I will agree with you.

Well I live alone and not in a relationship, so I make all decisions . The second part is more what I meant.

Kids can be obedient as long as they are discplined. The sad thing is some parents don't care or don't know how. That's why parenting class exists and in the same way dog training class is there for them. Dog are obedient because you put time and effort into training them. Kids are no different but they are different because they are human like us. They grow, learn and mature.

I LOVE dogs and kids, but like supernaut112, I can never compare them to the same level of their worthiness.

Default Why do some people like puppies/dogs but not babies/kids?

Because you can chain them up in the backyard and not get in trouble by the authorities.

What??

A dog is easier financially. Also, don't need a man or woman to give birth to one. Does not put a hole on your finances as it grows older. Then it dies and you get a mini vacation, until you decide to bring home a new pup.

Some people cannot have children. They just don't have money or the qualifications to raise children. It's complete dedication for 30 to 40 years until death.

On dogs, these days most people get dogs and cats to combat loneliness and depression. You have "something" to go home to. That's not the greatest thing. It's even selfish.

On the other hand, a dog is a great addition to family. Imagine those X'mas pictures or general family pictures with mom, dad, kids and a dog or two. It's not only appealing, it's gracious.

I personally believe that wealth is important when deciding to have a dog. It helps provide "everything" the dog needs, rather than crate it in a dingy studio for 10 hours.

You lost me at "normal human".

I love dogs and cats. I've never had a dog but I like them. And though there is still plenty of responsibility involved with owning a pet, it's nowhere near that of own...er...having a child. It's like the difference between owning a model ship you need to keep free of dust, and owning an 80 foot yacht that leaks oil. And is stolen.

Human babies (infants up to about their 2nd birthdays), are awful buckets of need. They aren't even cute yet, they have virtually no intelligence at all (puppies old enough to be adopted do), they eat, sleep, cry and crap. Speaking of crap, compare a baby's BM to a dog's, the baby's is absolutely nauseating.

Kids 2 or older are better, they are cute, but they remind you just how selfish people are, it's all about what they want.

Plus you can barely interact with human kids anymore lest you want to be considered a pedophile or weirdo. Meanwhile, you can go up and pet anyone's dog and usually be greeted kindly.

Finally, it seems that pets can give back, kids don't until they are out of college and employed.

Oh that's evil!

While I would agree that some newborns look a little freakish, mine didn't and I'm not just saying that because I'm their mom. They were pretty darn cute if I do say so myself. Perfectly round heads, chubby little cheeks and a little peach fuzz hairdo.

I've got 4 kids, 1 dog and 2 cats (and occasionally a few foster kittens), and I will tell you what...Cats are much easier than kids, but kids are easier than dogs. Or at least I think so.

Agreed. That's why so many people are single...and own dogs and cats. Can't argue with a growing trend.

I used to actually look forward to having a kid or two. So glad I didn't cave into that.
