Personally, I cant get a handle on the southern thing, especially the area I am in. The beaches arent too far away but they arent as nice as up north, they are dirty and the ppl are not as friendly as I had heard. They dont really like educated women who have a voice. I would seriously research and visit where you are thinking of in NC, before any kind of move. The only place Ive heard good things about is close to Asheville and the Blueridge Mtns. Luckily, we are in the military, and will be leaving soon. Ive never been so unhappy in a state, in my life. If you want further info as to why, feel free to PM me. I dont want to upset anyone that likes it here. Good luck to you! I cant WAIT to get out of NC!
Just sent you a PM. Thanks!

First I was "bitter" because "my highschool sweetheart dumped me" (we've actually been married for over 20 years), and now this?
Try re-reading my post, I dont think you understood the content of it so I will try to make myself clear. You sound like a tired wash woman with your constant repeating of why NC is not for you. We have heard you. Now PLEASE move back to NY so you could stop your complaining. And I'm not picking on you, however you sound like a grammer school kid who is crying to their mommy about a bully. Try to be a little more mature.

Wow bland? Toronto is the one big city I have been too that didnt feel huge and overwhelming upon arriving which I found a good (not bad) thing. You seem to have said the same thing about it but see that as a negative.

You get every ethnic restaurant in the world and lots of wonderful cultural things to do there. The subway is freaking sparkling, compared to someplace like NYC... there is every race and type of person there unlike the rest of Ontario or most of Canada for that fact. I really enjoy that city, I wish it had nice weather and was in the US I will say the foot traffic seems to be concentrated in certain parts of the city, whereas in a place like NYC every block I went to there was foot traffic galore...not like that in Toronto. (maybe a more efficient subway system?)

Vancouver I have heard is tremendous, I wish to go there someday myself, relatively mild and positively hot for Canada

I agree relative to cost of living in Boston, NYC, San Fran, that Chicago is not bad at all. It is bad compared to 95% of the country, but compared to the top 5-6 markets with the big city life, culture, etc it is the bargain of the group (probably weather related)

Sure, people can sometimes be unaccepting of newcomers, but, that's anywhere you go. You can find good neighborhoods everywhere, it just takes time.
Would you take NC over La Jolla if cost was not in the picture? I think La Jolla is wow... too bad its $1 million for your starter home

Well I made the chance and just did it 7 years ago. After 12 years in NC exile, I had to make a break.
Drove my mom back down to Western NC this weekend (McDowell Co). Drove all over Mitchell, Avery, Yancy and Watauga counties. Beautiful scenery.
Flew back into Newark last night. Got off the bus in Times Square and nearly got down and kissed the sidewalk(didn't of course, I love NYC but I am not crazy ).
I grew up in Detroit and did 17 years in the South. It's a nice place to visit.........

PS-For totally positive reviews, see Niki.

I'm sorry, apparently I misread. I could have sworn that the person who made this thread asked for people's opinions. He asked for their experience and how it was different. But apparently it actually said "I ONLY want people who like living in NC and the south to respond. If you don't like living there. don't respond". My mistake.

Its alright. If people want to only hear the positives and thats it, they are going to get some surprises they didnt expect.

Its like buying a used car, will you trust the salesman when he tells you everything is perfect with the car? You know there has to be some flaws. People need to hear both sides, thats what this forum is pretty much about.

I agree that we all need to hear the neg too but I will tell you this, if I were to move down and hate it, I probably would not post here because I would be based to death by the "I told you so's- and god only knows what else...

As for I'm Informed, if people would take a little time and browse prior posts they would know why I'm informed is upset and wants to leave and is waiting for his daughter to finish school this yr to go, but whoever asked the questioned he answered,

I am guilty too of answering questions already asked and asking them soemtimes as well all forgot, people make mistakes and is why there are pencils are erasesrs

we who have been here know I'm informed but someone who just came to the board may not -

My suggestion to I'm informed is pm these inidviduals

Well, almost totally positive. I've yet to say anything positive about the Fayetteville or Goldsboro areas.
