It appears, by the way, that some black folks on this forum are just desperate, desperate to minimize black ownership of businesses in this region, so as to "prove" that there is anti-black prejudice. I find that truly sad.

Not at all, I think it is more of a wake-up call to the liberals and taxpayers to tell them that after 40 years and 40 trillion Dollars of trying to equalize; we are still at square one. Basically, the people that claim to be helping them, are the ones hurting them the most. When they let 600 AA into JMU, without meeting the otherwise rigorous admission requirements, do you think they were really considered equals?

Do you think the other kids there really cared? I'd have seen it as a great way to up the football, basketball programs. I wish they'd do more of that at my alma mater. We're a bit heavy on brainiac Asian women.

Can you blame him? Who would want to stick out like that? People are more comfortable with their own kind, plain and simple. Too many people are quick to claim prejudice but just the way it is.

You're probably right, which is one reason why we have such a fractured political system and poor social safety net in this country. People don't like giving social benefits to members of other groups. If everyone were the same we'd probably have Swedish style socialism with generous child, maternity and elder care programs. Government programs like Social Security and Welfare were more popular back in the day when they were "whites only" by law.

One's own kind =/= One's own race. How about those who get the worst treatment from their own race? How about those who feel more comfortable in an area where no race is neither marginalized to near invisibility nor is the arrogant majority? I guess the typical East Coaster couldn't fathom such a circumstance.

Hey, I am against affirmative action as I do not believe in "equal outcomes for all," but what does that have to do with AAs in western Fairfax?

Not so. Swedes have Swedish-style socialism because they are Swedes, not because their society is monoethnic. There are plenty of monoethnic countries that are basket cases, let alone have a generously-funded welfare state (e.g. Yemen). Then there are multiethnic states that function very well and harmoniously (e.g. Singapore).

I am a Catholic, an American, a father and a husband and a son and, by choice, a Virginian first long before I categorize myself by my ethnic background or former nationality (which are different in my case). When I did my bit for my fellow citizens overseas, I wasn't just out there for blacks, browns, reds, whites or yellows.

By the way, some of my former colleagues who were black and I used to have a joke that Paris (or Europe) was where black Americans went to discover that they were Africans, not Americans, and sub-Saharan Africa was where then went to discover that they were Americans, not Africans.

I am glad to report that western Fairfax seems to be where at least those blacks I know discover that they are Virginians foremost!

There is no such thing as "his" people...Loyalty is not governed by skin tone...Do you think that Obama considers poor black people "his" people?

Without knowing what happened at James Madison, I think it may be a presumption that a sudden influx of African-American students at JMU or (bringing this back to relevancy) GMU is due to beefing up the athletic program.
