Good question... I wouldn't even consider Nebraska-Omaha a D1 school, outside of the hockey program (it's funny to see the Nebraska football jersey clad fans pack the arena to watch the 'big' Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame games.

To answer your question... there is only one D1 school in Omaha... although Creighton puts on a hell of a show at the Qwest Center. They draw the 15th highest average attendance crowd in the nation... the atmosphere feels about like an NBA game... not too shabby for a school with an enrollment of ~7,000.
Omaha has never supported it's local teams particularly well (outside of Bluejay basketball)... it really is an 'events' town... it loves the College World Series (which it'll have for another 25 years)... NCAA regionals... final 4 women's volleyball (averaged the largest crowds in the nation)... most recently the Olympic swimming trials... which produced the largest such crowds in history... I'd look for more events like these to come to Omaha... event planners are taking notice.

Omaha is a boring, uneventful city who's citizens get more self-absorbed and egotistical the further west you go. However, there is no better city in America to raise kids.

Well, I don't want to get my friends in Omaha all mad at me, but there is D1 and there is D1. I mean, UNO is not the University of Colorado. Creighton basketball is about the extent of what is known outside the state. And no, college sports are not the same equivalency as pro sports. They are what they are. Now I enjoy both, being from a "major league city" myself; I like each for what they are, but they're not the same. It seems to me that Husker football is a big scene in Omaha. Every time I have been there in the fall, the Husker flags are flying all over the place.

I'll tell you one thing collegiate and minor league sports are... they're inexpensive... and highly accessible (well, maybe not Nebraska football games). There's something to be said for that. Alot of 'big city' people I know... like to tout their cities major league franchises... but seldom go to games.
