The reason why OC is republican is simple.

OC people are totally obsessed with money and materialism. They believe they the Republican party will protect their wealth. Therefore they vote Republican.

Happ,

Go live in Canada. Go live in Sweden. Germany. CUBA! Are you really seriously putting CUBA on your list of success? If you are, you know nothing of Cuba.

So lets just leave Cuba out of it. Lets do Canada. You pay 60% in taxes to keep a system afloat that simply cannot and does not float. If a Canadian needs something serious done, they come here. To the USA.

One of the many bad things about socialism and even worse communism under Castro is that there is no incentive for success. You think a doctor in Canada is going to go through all the training required to be a heart specialist, to get paid pennies? Socialism and communism completely wipe out our selves as individuals. Both in personality and our innate desire to achieve and be noticed for our achievements.

A doctor in Canada opens the door and says come on in! If, you have a sore throat. Have any serious illness, it's like talking to a stone.

Take Sweden. Talk to any swede about the success of their health care system. Yes, in the 70's, when it was new, Sweden was like the best place on earth. Quality healthcare for everyone! Now, 30 years later, the system is on its collective a%^. Now 70% for taxes once again supporting a system that doesn't work. People in Europe go on the dole, and STAY ON IT FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES! You go into any pub, sit down to next to some smelly slob who hasn't worked for 15 years, and you get to talking to him, and here he is a full blown engineer, very smart, and without absolutely any incentive to get off the bar stool he has been sitting at for 15 years.

Welfare states absolutely do not work. Socialized medicine absolutely does not work. And CASTRO, that you would even bring him up, is a catastrophe.

Why is it that every democrat thinks it's better and greener in other countries? I travel to these places, and I give no one in these countries that wants to criticize me, my country, or my president, I don't give them an inch. I KNOW...what it is like in many countries around the world. And my wife is brazilian. Ask her how it's working for her mom to get the gal bladder operations that she has needed for 15 YEARS how that's coming. When she is on her deathbed, they will remove it. And not a minute before.

Why is every democrat so idealistic? That we all come together and sing kumbaya? You think that Clinton is a NICE GUY? He and his wife wouldn't walk across the street to pee on you if you were on fire. Behind closed doors, there are no republicans or democrats.

Maybe you are amused by the typical republican drivel (sic) of my previous post. But I assure you, this really is a big bad world. And when your government (which is a big business), acts in it's own best interest in an international arena, democrats go crying and blubbering. Resulting in our troops getting bombed on the USS Cole, with ZERO response from Clinton, because he wants to be a good guy.

Baloney.

It's time americans stand up and be proud. Proud of the big picture in spite of blunders. We are a living experiment of an ideology formed by our forefathers that had NEVER existed before in the history of humankind. We ARE....the most benevolent and caring superpower the world has ever seen. And yes, when we act in our own self interest, we are doing it for a reason. However misguided it might be at the moment, the intention is there. Then history straightens it out as to what was good, what was effective, and what fell flat on its face.

But Castro???? YGTBSM.

It's easy to just complain & offer anecdotal opinions that are glaringly outdated\ passé. I rarely read anything resembling progressive thought from Republicans [just reactions & insecurity]. And as history is showing, dead ideas & superstitious fears equal a dead party of white-only Southerns. To be proud of America means a lot more than pious jingoism. What is it about the world as it is & our future that triggers melancholy nostalgia of a make believe America that never existed?

I am eager to see some references to how medical care is bankrupting Europe or Canada. Our nation's bankruptcy is due to a senseless war and the eternal subsiding of a country that hates us while American's suffer under the huge debt. What country are Republicans supporting?

Aside from some knee-jerk sentimentally about the GOP, your response is meaningless\irrelevant to a Californian. Maybe a poor Southern white may get excited but not the rest of America & why the current GOP is insignificant & tainted by the Bush failures.

It's easy to just complain & offer anecdotal opinions that are glaringly outdated\ passé. I rarely read anything resembling progressive thought from Democrats that aren't complete horseshockey [just reactions & insecurity]. And as history is showing, dead ideas & superstitious fears equal a dead party of white-only Southerns. Meanwhile, enlightened Democrats don't have a clue about the overused arguments of what this world is all about. To be proud of America means a lot more than lets go against everything this country stands for and go the real American way. The NEW American way. You'd be sitting on that barstool in some foreign country apologizing for the overused arguments that Democrats use in thinking they have the answer. Talk about pious jingoism! What is it about the world as it is & our future that triggers the envy of every country in the world? And how come other countries see the USA as a country of greatness yet its own people want to bash it continually?

I am eager to see some references of how well socialized medicine works. Ahh...as usual the democrats have no answers. They really live in a world of idealism. Our nation's bankruptcy is due to a senseless war (lets see what Obama does about this senseless war now that he knows what is really going on), and the eternal subsiding of a country that hates us while American's suffer under the huge debt. What country are Democrats supporting? Don't tell me isolationism! Don't tell me we need to pull up our tent and circle the wagons and take care of our own country!!!!! What a joke. You sound, actually, like the poor southern white guy that you so quickly throw under the bus with ignorance.

Aside from some knee-jerk sentimentally about the GOP, your response is meaningless\irrelevant to a SocialistwannabeCubanobutamstuckhereinCalifornia, the 9th largest economy in the WORLD. You really should go live in Cuba for a year. Make you a believer in the worn out phrases of people that actually believe in their country and have a clue of what this is all about.

Maybe a poor Southern white may get excited but not the rest of America & why the current GOP is insignificant & tainted by the Bush failures and why Obama, now not on the outside and able to roll grenades into the tent at will, will have little say in what goes on in the international scene. I think possibly you need to get out and see this world and realize just how lucky you have it by the overused, poor white southern pride that you seem to so much detest.

Do you even know the words to your own National Anthem? Or who wrote it? I know, a poor white southern man now using that old and overused rag of the National Anthem to make you sound un-american. Gee, ain't that just horrible?

I'd bet you money you don't know the words. And don't bother to go out onto the internet and copy and paste them.

Cuba waits, Hap! They want good socialists like you. Do you even REMOTELY know the history of Castro? Shame on you for believing anything that that country stands for is something to emulate.

Hey Miamidispaced:

Do not bother talking to these guys. They come in every unimaginable way of naivety. Are they mentioning Europe? For reaaaaallllllllll, with its parasite kings, LOL. And Cuba? where Im from. This guy is a totally joke, another Michael Moore. But hey, that happens when someone takes liberty for granted and does not have to paddle 90 miles to arrive to THE BEST COUNTRY ON EARTH AND THE MANKIND's HISTORY. Cuba's health system = good, LOL, what a joke.

PD: I wish I have could be blessed with the same naivety, and regarding to Cali, well it seems like its democratic party has not been wokring well during the last decades, it is almost in bankruptcy. LOL,

Happ:

Please talk to a really cuban doctor, do not repeat what you listen on the liberal media.

Please don't put words in my mouth that I never said & how about responding to the questions? Where do you get your information? It would be helpful to understand your source. It would also help if you could separate your words from mine if you are quoting me [very confusing to read

Where are the solutions to the problems? Rants & old-fashion biases are meaningless. The Republican party in California is a laugh. Did you read the article where other Republicans have said the same thing? Why don't you address the issue rather than get off on dramatic sentimentality [ie "national anthem"]. Emotionalism without concrete direction is nothing more than "feel good" piety.

The issue remains. Why is Orange county the last urban/suburban county in California that is still Republican [though just barely]? Maybe because like most Republicans, they have no clue or inclination to think. And after Bush, America can not afford to have a non-thinker in control.

Thanks Thomas! I like the nik, btw.

I had many Cuban friends while living in Miami. Each one of them good people. Extremely hard working and an extreme capability of survival. As all of them came from Cuba either in the last airlift, or afterwards, all of them had personal experience with Castro and his ways. And all of them are so unbelievably so pro USA that it makes you wonder at the likes of Mr Happ y and the ignorance he displays of his own country.

We are not perfect here. We have a lot of problems. Some as a result of Bush, and most as a result of people being people. THE DIFFERENCE REMAINS here, vs Cuba, is that here, if you get caught, you are going to jail. Doesn't matter who you are. Not to mention THE DIFFERENCE REMAINS that here, you have OPPORTUNITY. Even poor southern white boys. It is more difficult for some people to create their opportunity (it's hard to tell a 15 year old surrounded by drugs that it is better for him to flip burgers at McDonalds for $7.00/hour rather than make $1000.00 per day selling drugs on the corner), but...there is opportunity available for each and every one of us. Ask a Cuban how much oppportunity exists in his country. That's why they come here so skilled at survival. Because that's all they know. And their level of success is astounding. And as a group, they are extremely smart. Of course, as in any immigrants, the newer generations become me me me oriented and fall away from the traditions and toughness that brought their fathers and grandfathers to this country to begin with. But that is not limited to Cubans. It is all Americans as generations continue.

And I love how 95% of the Cubans characterize the democrats this way: you are either Republican, or communist. And they make no distinction for the in-betweens. Because they KNOW what government control leads to.

Mr Happ y gives no value to the very system that has sustained his life to date. And is typical in his lobbing of grenades of the democrats. Lobbing, but giving no solutions besides....gee...can't we all get along!

Yes, I am near done with Mr Happ y. Not worth the effort. Have a great New Years TJ! Hang on...it's going to be a doozie!

And where are you solutions? Where are your facts?

My information is firsthand. Been there, done that. And through my own personal experience of having circled the world AT LEAST 65x, visiting and working in many countries under many cultures, and having close personal friends of other cultures and debating with them first hand the merits and demerits of their government, yes, I stand behind what I say with firm conviction.

You, as a typical american, think that everyone thinks like you. Or should think like you. You think that culture is limited to, oh, this is how you celebrate xmas, and oh, this is what St Patricks Day means in the USA. Not even beginning to realize that people from other cultures actually THINK differently. They get from A .... to B......in how they think completely differently from an american.

Now you try and be the worlds superpower/police/stabilizer of this earth and deal with these cultures.

You think that the world hates us because of Bush? You think it just started then? The world has hated us for decades. If nothing else because we ARE the superpower. And if you ever played sports, the one person you hate the most is the one that you cannot compete with. Envy. Simple as that.

Everyone hates americans but gee....most want to be american. Because they want to be on the winning team. Or, is it because of opportunity? And a belief in government? You have zero idea of how hard it is on people in other countries to just survive, much less contribute to the GNP. You think we have lost faith in our government because of Bush? You have no idea of what loss of faith is and how bad it can get. All damage aside of these last years, this is leaps and bounds the greatest country on earth. Australia is a great place...but they too have their problems. And you couldn't pay me to live in Europe with their social unrest. And Brasil is one of the most dangerous countries on the planet....as much of south america is in general. Corruption so deep that it takes years of exposure to get your head around it and what these people go through on a daily basis and how they think and live their lives as a result.

Ahh...but you are a giver of humanity! A tried and true blue democrat! And as usual with democrats, have not a clue as to the gravity of what you stand for and where it leads.

Still waiting for your facts, Mr Happ y. Or your own personal experiences to bolster your grenades. That glowing world of worldwide friendship is just around the corner...as soon as Bush gets out of office. I'm sure of it! Just hang in there and all the bad people will go away!

Great diversion switching the discussion to Cuba but what does it have to do with the thread? Why don't you back up what you write & answer direct questions about your claims?

You also sound ages old & likely haven't read a history book in a long time. That's your choice, by the way, & why voters do not elect Republicans if they want intelligent leadership. I'm sure you voted twice for Bush & will probably visit his library [if it ever gets built] but your beliefs are antiquated & nothing more than emotional nonsense. Sorry for being so abrupt but it would greatly enhance your credibility if you'd address the questions [it's up to you, bud!

Canadians do not pay 60% in taxes. That is a ridiculous statement made by right wing Americans to scare people into being turned off by universal healthcare. I pay 39% in taxes, that is a far cty from 60%.Also there are many deductions available. I don't know anyone that has gone to the U.S to get a medical procedure. Their are waiting lists for non serious issues but there are waits in certain parts of the U.S as well. Besides even if you pay less in taxes having to come up with $500 a month to pay for health care for your family kind of negates your tax savings.
