You guys hear that Rick Warren from Saddleback Church will be delivering the invocation at Obama's inauguration? What do you think?

Good idea . We should have a one party state. Dissent will not be tolerated.

Just think how wonderful California will be when there's no one to slow down the legislature from raising taxes, errr, "fees" to cover their overspending.

Calif. lawmakers pass Democratic budget; GOP calls it unconstitutional

The California Legislature has approved an $18 billion Democratic plan to cut spending and raise revenue to reduce the state's historic deficit, breaking a 43-day partisan standoff.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has not decided whether he will sign it. And Republicans threatened to sue, calling the plan unconstitutional.

In a radical and complex move, lawmakers in both Democratic-controlled chambers passed several pieces of legislation with simple majorities this afternoon. That side-stepped the constitutional requirement that tax increases require a two-thirds super-majority.

The Democrats' plan relied on a complicated and novel series of revenue-neutral measures that rely on the legal difference difference between taxes and fees. Republicans had thwarted previous Democratic plans by opposing all tax increases, which needed a two-thirds vote.

Today, Republicans did not support bills to raise gas, personal income and sales taxes. But they did vote for legislation that slashes more than $7 billion from schools, health programs and prisons.

The governor's aides said the sticking point is over whether to loosen labor and environmental rules to help businesses and speed up construction projects, the Los Angeles Times says.

The Associated Press also has details and reaction.

Update at 7:56 p.m. ET: Schwarzenegger now says he will veto the legislation, stating it doesn't go far enough to close the projected $42 billion deficit over the next 18 months. He also says he wants an economic stimulus package that includes private-sector partnerships and help for Californians struggling to keep their homes, The Associated Press says.

What does the governor mean by "private-sector partnerships"? The private sector is broke. Schwarzenegger needs to ask Obama for assistance since Bush has never helped California\ never cared for California. We are in a mess & may need to cut environmental safeguards but doubt if the courts would permit it. There's really nothing California can do but plead with D.C. for a return on some of our taxes, thank you very much!

private sector aint broke, the state broke the private sector with laws and regulations that drive them out(on top of already high wage and land/lease costs). private-sector partnerships that keep jobs here are necessary in this business climate. my company has a contract with the state dmv that requires us to maintain a certain percentage of the department operations here in california eventhough most of the company has relocated to much-much-much-much-much-much-much-much-cheaper-to-operate-a-business texas. most companies are doing similar things.

that is what Schwarzenegger means by private-sector partnerships

George W ran on the same platform. He promised Free tax credits for married couples with kids, ending of the imaginary marriage penalty, farmer subsidies, more rx for seniors, etc. He was giving EVERYTHING away to get elected. Why shouldn't a Democratic candidate do the same?

Not at all, considering I am a republican

Factually this just isn't true. This is the most recent voter registration survey. Look at San Diego, look at San Luis Obispo.

Party registration means nothing anymore. It is quite obvious that Republicans voted for Obama & why San Diego & San Luis Obispo joined the rest of California by going Democratic.

LA Times has a graph of California counties that is blue except in rural areas & Orange county. That Obama did so well in Orange Co should alarm Republicans that the GOP is in a spiral toward obscurity unless it turns Libertarian ASAP.

Liberalism is sprewing out this post. First, I think we can agree that the fact show the Dem's were way more enthralled with their candidates than Republicans were with McCain. Additionally, San Diego and SLO are fairly moderate/ slight republican counties. When a candidate is introduced who can excite the people, the moderate counties will follow suit.

Oh yeah, OC is republican, and will stay republican.

Cabolissa: I think the public needs to wake up on the Rick Warren topic. Obama, himself, is against gay marriage. Rick Warren is getting protested. Maybe Obama shouold be protested? It is due to lack of education and the press' love affair with Obama.
