Those leashes that some parents use on small children are really weird IMO.
On one hand, I understand you're trying to keep them from wandering or running off, but on the other hand, it kind of looks like the child is being treated like a dog with those leashes.
As parents, what do you think of them? I think they're stupid looking and must be embarrassing for the child.
I had an 18 month old from H***, he would scream in his stroller, he wanted out. And he had one speed, RUN. I had three others, and a grandmother in a walker to watch. He was firmly leashed, I did not care what others thought. He had a little harness, with a bear backpack. I only used it in places that were crowded. He thought it was his special suit...he did not think it was restricting. He loved it.
They were popular when we lived in Europe. When we came back to the States, people gave her strange looks.
She was a nurse. She said that holding a child's arm up in the air, when holding hands, for long periods of time isn't good for children. Think it's okay? Just hold your arm up in the air for even 10 minutes and see how it feels. Now imagine having someone hold your hand for an hour at the zoo.
It's not only healthier for the children, but the parents as well. I have arthritis in the thorasic part of my spine from lifting and carrying my children for many years.
It's sad that Americans such as yourself are too caught up on appearances to not take into consideration what is best for children and their parents.
I can't speak on how they work, but all I know is, as a bystander, I feel sorry for the child in question because the leashes look totally stupid. Oh BTW kids on leashes can still mess things up in stores so really the leashes don't have much purpose. How about teaching your kids good behavior instead?
I had one, but only used it a couple times. Once at a parade, and once on a vacation in Utah where we were high up on arches and ledges. I don't care how "undignified" people might think it is. It beats watching my preschooler go over the edge of a cliff!
