It happened to a friend of a friend and I was shocked by how she handled it.

What's the big deal. It's a rite of passage for teens. I'm surprised you didn't find the condoms as well as he's probably having regular sex with some gal or many gals. If he is looking at hardcore porn then that means he is studying new positions and probably bored at what he is doing so far. I think you should make sure he uses proper birth control and let him do what he wants. Its good practice for college.
The boy is 14. The mother found Hustler mags from the 1980s. She took them, confronted him with them in front of the whole family (including grandparents), and sentenced him to weekly therapy for 3 months.
I am told he is in therapy because she is convinced he is a sex addict just because a few of the pages were stuck together. And yet, the mags are nearly 30 years old! How does she know they weren't in that condition before he got a hold of them?
I feel sorry for the chap...and I am happy to report I have heard he has been uncooperative with his therapist.
He should cooperate more, with a mom like that he may need therapy....
Seriously why is this an issue? When I was 18-19 I would buy my brother magazines. My mother knew it. She was glad he wasn't stealing them. He had a thing for Elle MacPherson so when she was in PlayBoy I had to get him a few copies. No big deal. The world didn't stop. He didn't grow up to be a serial killer. He doesn't eat bats or children. He's perfectly normal.....well for a Star Wars fan.

What's to handle and why isn't your teenage son cleaning his own room? He has the magazines and I'm sure he has already looked at them so what are you going to accomplish? Make him clean his own room and your finding things he doesn't want you to see problems will be over.
I answered it as a 13-14 year old, not an 18 year old. I would already have been having talks with him about sex, but I am not a fan of a 13 year old with porno rags in the house...depending what they are.
I would be concerned that this young man was unaware that this type of material was available on the internet for free and with much more choices. Gone are the days when you had to trudge uphill three miles in the snow for some decent smut.
The mother sounds like a hot mess! Hope there's no other children in the house that she's going to screw up. I'm guessing when this boy is old enough, he will move as far away from her as he can.
