Unless of course you meant terminal 1, which didn't have jetways.

I do also remember terminal 1, which was closed down after terminal 4 opened in late 1990, and it was later torn down. I know up until 1984, which was the last time I boarded a flight out of terminal 1 (SouthWest Airlines) I had to walk across the tarmac, but luckily it was in October not in the middle of July!

I also know that they're going to build another terminal where terminal 1 used to be.
Terminal one may have been torn down but the original flight-controller tower was removed and may survive. Think it happened around 1985. And I remember Terminal Two had a big lit sign after the ticket counter that said TO THE PLANES. (There was really only one direction to go at the time)

The control tower from terminal one survives, it is on the south side of the airport as part of Cutter Aviation, you can see it from the I-10 between the river bottom and the 24th st exit.

I drive by the old tower on I-10 every morning on my way to work at Airesearch/Garrett/Allied-Signal/Honeywell. (Yup, been there for awhile)

I would ride with my dad to Sky Harbor in the 50's to pick up baby chicks that had been air-freighted in to us. We would drive our truck onto the tarmac at the east end of terminal 1 to get our shipment. We would occasionally park on 24th street under the glide path and watch the planes fly over us. I remember the Super-Connie's and the roar of those big radial engines.

We had a chicken ranch in west Mesa and would raise the chicks till they were egg producing pullets, then we would sell them to Hickmans or Chandler Egg Co. You might say we were the middle men. We raised 100K+ at a whack and needless to say, I had a lot of chicken dinners growing up. Couldn't stand the taste of chicken till my mid to late 20's.

I think the Gemco was at 19th & Glendale. There's a Fry's there now. My brother worked at that Yellow Front back in the early 80s. Was Woolco at 33 Ave & Indian School? Or was that Woolworths?
