No, he's a governor's son, very blue-blood. But he lived with Linda Ronstadt for a while and perhaps she transferred a bit of the--well, hippie vibe, for lack of a better term.
Well a lot of hippies were from the blue bloods---rebelling that lifestyle. Of course, they all went back to their daddy's mansion once they got too old to rock and roll the night away and drop acid.

Way back when, Jerry Brown was considered a leader for the California Hippies. I think he is an aging reincarnation of his former self. Fiscally conservative; socially wacko.
In the 70's, the group, Dead Kennedys, had a song in which they described Jerry Brown as a "power hungry fascist" posing as a liberal.

I've not read this anywhere. He graduated law school in 1964, before hippiedom was the style, and after that followed a fairly conventional legal career before becoming Secretary of State and then Governor.
I'm sure that such hippies as were still around in the 1970s preferred him to Ronald Reagan, but that hardly makes him one of their leaders.

There's only one good thing to say about him. Either he's fighting the good fight or he's a paranoid jackass nutbar. The people have spoken.
And on your second point: I'm not a lefty and I didn't vote for Obama, but that doesn't mean that I have to swallow an obvious paranoid's grandiose delusions hook line and sinker. Many people with conservative voting records recognize Beck for the loon that he is.

OK. A satirical song by an anarchist punk-rock band that presented Brown as a fascist also described him as a hippie. Fair enough.
But when you said "was considered a leader for...hippies" I assumed you meant "was considered by credible people."
