That rather sounds like fun. It's been such a long, tough recession...maybe a little fun isn't such a terrible thing.
I do commend you for an earlier post concerning your gift giving this year.
Oprah chose not to do the give away shows in 2009 because of the poor economy and chooses to do the give aways shows this year in her final season when the economy is still down. Hmmmm.
not angry at all, nor trying to diminish you just wondering why with all the things going on in the world anyone would really care that someone like ophra who gives away billions of dollars isn't giving away more, or is giving too much. some of these questions have to be rhetorical, surely you know the answers.
I have seen plenty of billionaires make a spectacle of giving away their money. in fact I think bill and warren did it on the oprah show.
it seems to most people who have posted in this thread to wonder about oprah's motivation, to question a her generosity seems a bit disingenuous.
I think Oprah is disingenous to give this year when she chose not to last year due to the bad economy. The economy is still bad but this is her final season. Do you not think it gauche for Oprah to flaunt her giving of frivolous gifts in such a down economy? Most benefactors seek no publicity when they give. The commercials for Oprah's give away shows were pervasive.

no I don't think oprah is disingenuous AT ALL. no I don't find it gauche for her to give so lavishly in a down economy.
do you think it's gauche for us to have such a huge national christmas tree at the WH or the one at Rockefeller Plaza, considering the cost of getting the tree there, the decorations, the labor and the cost of electricity in this economy. is it disingenuous for wealthy people to give to charities lavishly if they talk about it later?

Because I detest rich people who scream look at me with their gift giving. Is Oprah insecure or what?
She might be. I understand that she grew up quite poor and that her upbringing wasn't the greatest. But she's done more good, and made more people's lives better, with her money than say someone like Leona Hemsley.

Whatever the reason she is promoting herself for the last season. That is sad. I thought Oprah was above the whole "look at me" celebrity behavior. She has more money than she can ever spend. It is time for Oprah to focus more on her integrity and reputation and less on promoting her business interests.
