Oh goody we can now look forward to "Mystery Meat" and one of my favorities "Grossed Beef".

and from the film 1984 Winston and his neighbor in the Minitruth Cafeteria
"Can I have that, it looks like meat, tastes like meat but isn't meat at all. Double plus good you know!"

and from the movie 2001.Heywood Floyd on the Moonbus and its time for a quick lunch during the trip out to TMA-1
"What do we have here ham, chicken""Here's a ham" "Hmmm The guys at the base are getting better at this all the time."

Researchers say the advent of "pain-free" meat produced from stem cells could save millions of animals from the abattoir and help the environment through substantially reduced energy, land and water use.

Dutch researcher Dr. Mark Post, of Maastricht University, predicts the first synthetic sausage could be just six months away.

"I'm hopeful we can have a hamburger in a year," he told New Scientist.

I'm wondering why I should care if millions of animals die?

I saw a article on a new way to dispose of dead bodies using a high pressure KOH solution to turn them in to a fluid that can be poured down a sewer. Now why should all that protein rich liquid be thrown away. Anyone for Solylent Red, Yellow or Green?

Fetal Bovine serum is a by-product of the meat industry. Fetal bovine serum, as with the vast majority of animal serum used in cell culture, is produced from blood collected at commercial slaughterhouses from cattle bred to supply meat destined for human consumption.

yes, i realize bovine is not a horse, but i doubt it's obtained differently.

Vat grown meat has been around in concept for a while, interesting to see we're finally getting close to realizing the dream.

But I think this early stuff isn't quite ready for prime time. It will take a few "generations" before the technology readily replicates the basic mouthfeel, appearance, aroma, etc. of meat.

I've been asking Vegans and vegetarians for years in real life, on my blog and on message boards if they would consider consuming vat-grown beef, and the results are mixed.

Just wait until 3D Printers start assembling complex recipes for us.

Well thanks just the same but I'll stick to the real thing I have no problem with my meat coming from an animal.
