You have called hard working Americans freeloaders, selfish, whiners, and accuse them of exploiting the system when they are simply using the legal deductions everyone uses. Do you not use every deduction available to you, do you simply pay your whole tax bill or do you "exploit" the system by using the deductions to decrease your tax bill? Do you choose to pay more than the law requires?

This way of talking about working Americans who absolutely contribute to this country in many ways that benefit the upper working class, and wealthy classes is horribly insulting, and no way to get decent people to listen to talk of tax reform. Working class Americans have little to no influence, and didn't make the tax laws, wealthy people control the politicians, and have the influence to create policies. Wealthy conservatives love to talk about class warfare against the wealthy, but your posts read like bitter class warfare against the working class, and lower earners, as though they are to blame for every woe.

Um... we're talking about FUNDING the federal government.

The 51% of income earners paying zero in federal income tax are NOT paying their fair share.

Everyone who contributes to the economy is helping to fund the govt. directly or indirectly, there is a bigger picture that you ignore, we live in a society, no one does it on their own. To get the question you asked, and I answered, whether you think they are paying enough or not does not excuse insulting behavior.

Taxes do not affect earners fairly, increasing taxes for everyone by 5% would mean very little to my lifestyle, the same increase on a working poor family can mean an inability to pay their heating bill, or even losing their home, that is not fair!

As long as 47% pay no income taxes, they will continue to vote for tax increases to on the 53% that do.

Part of that bigger picture is the federal income tax. 51% of income earners pay NO federal income tax. They are NOT paying their fair share to fund the federal government.

Um... yeah... that's known as incentive to improve yourself and your situation. Without it, we have what we can see everywhere around us... generation after generation utterly dependent on government welfare and handouts for their very existence.

You do know that the birth rate of those receiving public assitance is 3 times that of everyone else, don't you?

Why is that? they are financially rewarded for doing nothing more than breeding.

This is not a discussion of the welfare class, that is a common way of changing the subject away from American WORKERS who struggle to survive on low pay, yet contribute to this country, and help pay the high earnings of the well off by buying their products and services.

They do not contribute to the funding of the federal government via federal income tax, and they do in fact receive federal welfare in many cases. A full 30% of income earners receive MORE money back from the federal government via various welfare deductions and tax credits than they pay in federal income tax.

"yet CONTRIBUTE to this country, and help pay the high earnings of the well off by buying their products and services." (Usually with 100% of their incomes.)You cut out anything that doesn't fit with your tunnel vision that having every hard working American, no matter how poor, no matter how much they may be struggling as it is to meet their basic needs pay FIT will solve all ills, and create "fairness" even though anyone with a brain knows taxes unfairly hurt those who make the least. Incomes aren't fair, life isn't fair, even higher income earners have bad years.

It has been shown that the 51% is based only on 2009 which as most of us know was an unusually bad year, and the Recovery Act created temporary tax cuts that affected millions, the usual number is closer to 35-40%. There is also the issue that just because people don't pay it in one year doesn't mean they never do, many of those people have paid FIT, and will again pay it. Many of that number are elderly, disabled or students (whom will be paying FIT once they enter the job market.) With the credits it's not so simple either, the majority of EITC recipients receive the credit for only one or two years at a time, such as when their incomes drop due to a temporary layoff; they pay federal income tax in other years. In fact, EITC recipients pay much more in federal income taxes over time than they receive in EITC benefits. Many of these people also pay federal excise taxes. Of course many people don't want to look at these issues, it's more fun to be self righteously angry at all the "freeloaders."

I find it funny how a 31 year old making $70k thinks he is part of the what? 53% percent who pays taxes? Let's put things into perspective since it is the Social Security taxes that those in lower paying jobs happen to fund the Federal Government on a day to day basis since their taxes are deducted from their paychecks each week.
Self Employed individuals such as myself don't have to pay taxes every week but on a Quarterly basis which means every 3 months. Even then I can file for a extension delaying my payment to the IRS for quite a while.
Then when I go do my return I can deduct a host of business related costs that lowers my tax burden. The caveat is that married "middle class" people with children do have some deductions yet I as a single businessman will get more deductions irregardless.
