In actuality, MOST Black Americans have a great respect for Bill Cosby. If you actually knew any Black people (and it is quite obvious that you do not) you could actually have the discussion with them instead of imagining whatever it is that you choose to believe in your mind.

The fact that you would use such an ugly word to refer to innocent children, who have no control over the manner in which they were born, says far more about your character, than those you choose to demonize.

One of you black people need to inform ovacatto that I still want to stop calling myself white but so often on questionnaires I have to choose white or caucasian as my race. I am not even a tiny bit black so to select that as my answer would be a lie. I have to select white when it is the only choice. Too often I am asked if I am a white hispanic person and I have no hispanic anywhere in my background.

I ask you of the, I guess, African American group to tell him because he has allowed himself to put me on ignore, he says. I can't tell him because he can't read anything I say.

But I don't get the African thing. Maybe they want to call themselves Caribbean instead since there are far more blacks there as a percentage of the population than in Africa.

Was in Africa last month and it was a very mixed crowd.

Africa does not = Black IMO. Africa is far more diversified than the impression I had.

Now if you are born in Africa, Mexico or Italy I can see someone saying they are African/Mexican/Italian American.

Nor have I. Even albinos aren't actually white. Nor have I seen a "black" person. Although, I have seen some very, very, very dark, or what some refer to as urple.

I'm a light caramel. Pleased to meet you pink-peach. Hmmm. . . we sound more like ice cream flavors.

I have, but it was one of those wanna-be vampire goth types. Kinda freaky-looking.

I personally only identify as "white" because it's forced on me by various government forms. Normally I say I'm "American" or "Caucasian". I have ancestors from England, Scotland, France, and even a smidge of Native American (four generations back, so I really can't count it). I *might* even have a little black or Hispanic blood floating around in there, who knows? My actual skin color is a tan, and is a long way from "white". I personally married another Caucasian, but my brother and many of my cousins have mixed-race children; all self-identify as "American".

In my opinion, the only way an American Citizen should be allowed to append anything to the word "American" when describing their ethnicity or race is if:
1) They are a naturalized citizen born in another country, or
2) They are a Native American (they got here first, they should get a few perks)

Anyone else is either an American or.... not.

The premise of the OP is that as long as the last racist in a cave somewhere says, "I'm white", he will claim to be "African American", which makes no sense. The opposite of "white" is "black" or "brown", not some reference to another continent that most who use that identifier have been separated from for more generations than they can count.
