If you have collective bargaining you can negotiate to have maternity leave as part of your benefit package. If you don't, you can look for a job that has that benefit. If neither, you can SAVE for the time you are to have a child. You may even want to save for the child's education. The government (taxpayer) is not there to provide for every need that people have.

My post "It was normal in the USA 200 years ago to have slaves." is perfectly accurate.

200 years ago would be the year 1811..... the peak of slavery and it was "normal".

Yes, that is the prevailing view in the US. That mothers should work full-time throughout their pregnancy. Funny how we're the only country in the world that seems to take that perspective.

And what about when after baby is born? You think its okay to leave a newborn infant alone in the house while the mother is working? Or leave it in the hands of a stranger all day long, if one can even be found? What if the mother can't afford to hire a full-time nanny? They aren't exactly cheap you know.

Then don't have a baby. Last time I checked, having a baby was voluntary.

If you can't afford a baby, don't have one and don't ask the hard working tax payers to pay for your lack of responsibility.

It's simply if you think about it. Having a baby brings with it the responsibility to take care of it ON YOUR OWN NICKEL.

Why is that such a difficult concept?
People get pregnant. They may not intend to, they may not want to, but stuff happens.
So what other options are there for a woman who doesn't want to carry a child to term for, say.. money reasons, employment issues, maybe she's a teen, or perhaps her husband/boyfriend isn't willing to help raise a child? And it is the woman who pays whatever price is exacted.

Common sense:

Gee, how Christian of you...not.

I'm a hardworking taxpayer, and personally I don't mind my taxes paying to help others in need. So speak for yourself

Other choices:

Drop dead beat BF.
Keep legs close and do your due diligence of said BF.
Birth control + condoms + sponges + morning after pill + abortion (at your own expense).
Become a nun.
Cut BF testes off.
Fix BF (or husband).
Jump off a cliff for being to dumb to do some or all of the above.

Babies don't "happen." Females trying to trap males "happens." Males trying to trap females (to females who open their legs without some strict requirements) "happens."

Hopefully you make more than $52,000 so that you actually do pay something into the system... Otherwise, you pay nothing besides payroll taxes and those go to a dude named FICA.

Why should an employer have to pay someone so much time off because they had a baby?? :/
