So that Clinton could secure the female vote.

I'm pretty sure the employers don't pay in other countries. It's set up as a governmental agency program like a medicare/medicaid.

There... our precious corporations and employers are all protected and don't have to be a part of our country's societal problems and issues and solutions.

I live in NOVA a right to work state. In the private sector, on the most part, you can be fired for absolutely no reason given. Sure there is a risk a lawyer may take the case to court. Most do not.

No, that's a work-at-will state. That still doesn't give them the right to fire someone for requesting FMLA as long as it falls under the FMLA Act.

Really? Because having to hire a temporary worker to take the place of a full time person that you hired for their qualifications isn't exactly a walk in the park easy or un-burdensome.

Government welfare doesn't promote strong families and healthy lives. We have decades of proof of that...

Actually you don't since the US has never had this type of program AND since other countries with these types of programs actually put their money where their mouths are.

It always stuns me whenever someone brings up the fantastic $15/hr minimum wage in Australia.

It ain't $15 it's all relative.

All over Australia housing costs are higher than here but on the west coast it gets absolutely insane. For $500k you get a shack while an average American style house costing $1 million or more. A $1 million house is nice and all but it isn't anything special.

Because someone has to pay and who is that?

Everyone is tapped out.

I know what you are thinking; tax the rich but the rich don't have enough.

We were set up as a republic, you will not find the word "democracy" anywhere in our founding documents, and what we are devolving to is a idiot democracy. You know what a democracy is? A democracy is seven wolves and and two lambs voting on what's for dinner and pray you are not one of the lambs because, if you are, it won't end well for you. We were set up as a republic in order to protect the lambs.

Here is our problem, you tell me how to solve it.

According to the latest Wage Statistics from 2009, published by the social security administration, then add the total earnings of everyone earning $250k and up. Add the figures up and the truth emerges if we applied a 100% tax rate confiscating all their earnings, to include the first $250k they earned leaving them with zero income for the year, the money confiscated would not be enough to fund the federal government from January 1 to the end of February.

Think the problem might be to much spending and not collecting enough taxes?

Next up add the total wages of those earning more than $1 million per year. There are so few people earning this much (78,147 people to be exact) if we confiscated all their earnings it wouldn't be enough to run the government for twelve lousy days.

And yet somehow people think that socking it to millionaires is going to solve all our problems?

The total earnings were $184 billion.

One way to look at it is with a federal government that spent $3.7 trillion in 2011 ($422 million/hour or $10.1 billion/day) that 184 billion OCS is whining about is enough to fund the federal government for a whopping 18 days if we took ALL OF IT including the first dollar.

With 307 million people if we confiscated every dime they earned dividing it equally we would each receive a check for $596 for the year as if that would really help us out? Wow, with less than $50/month we could all make a weekly trip to Starbucks for a Latte!

You got to face the fact we're broke. What part of "we're broke" don't some people understand? As a nation we keep kicking the can down the road and we'll only put ourselves in a position where living in Greece will look like a good alternative.

Now you got me rolling and I haven't even touched the immorality of it yet.
