In absolutely every war we have been engaged, the US has taken POWs and held them in custody indefinitely, without charging them. When the war ended those POWs were either released or charged with war crimes. Under Public Law 107-40, which is still in effect, the US is still in a state of war. Get a clue you morons!
You know nothing about the law. What you said does not even compare. We are talking about US citizens detained at the President's say so alone without due process.

In case you are a product of US public schools, the War on Poverty is also not a war where the military is involved.

The military can detain POWs for as long as the war lasts, without charges and without a trial. Only a complete idiot thinks wars last "forever." When Congress repeals Public Law 107-40, then all the POWs will either be released, or they will be charged and put on trial.
You're clueless. You don't even know the legal questions at hand.

Well, here it is.
OK so could you now explain why 82% of the GOP voted with Obama and 50% of the Dems voted against Obama regarding this horrible, unconstitutional law?

Obama is not going to veto the bill because it passed only six votes short of a veto-proof majority. An Obama veto would ensure a congressional override.

The law does absolutely nothing to anyone's "civil liberties."

Welcome to the next Civil War. This is all about disarming and enslaving America. Prepare to see troops on the streets soon, Martial Law declared, border checks at state lines, and the FEMA camps filling up with enemy combatants (gun owners, constitutionalists, advocates of the Bill of Rights (R.I.P.)) The only question now is whether or not our military will actually obey the orders to attack it's own citizens. God help us all.

Glenn Greenwald: Obama Had Indefinite Detention Inserted Into Defense Authorization Act - YouTube
I posted the relevant Section 1031, verbatim, six days ago. You might want to read the actual law instead of some clown on You Tube giving their misinterpretation.

As the law states, Congress is reaffirming that Public Law 107-40 is still in effect and we are indeed in a state of war. Under the law of war, and under the exception provided by the Fifth Amendment, POWs may be held in captivity indefinitely without being charged with a crime. Just ask Jose Padilla about that reality.

This is no different than any other time we have been at war and have taken POWs. During the 1991 Gulf War, we held thousands of Iraqi POWs, until the war was over. In Vietnam, Korea, Germany, Japan, everywhere we have taken POWs in a time of war, we have held them indefinitely and either released them when the war was over, or tried them for war crimes by military tribunal, after the war was over.

I swear, you are simply looking for an excuse to panic. Well, you will not find that option with this law. Which explains why the vast majority in Congress, Republicans and Democrats alike, voted for this law.

Maybe this is why Obama wants a " Civilian National Security force", to round us all up

Other Presidents have signed similar EOs. I looked up the one from 1994.
Seems DHS has replaced many of the other agencies as the authority and overseer.

Nothing substantially new in this order compared to others over the years.

It does bother me though that DHS it getting authority for so many pieces of US economy and becoming the central authority.
