I never understood those who complain about how people on welfare have it better than them. If you envy them that much, quit your job, abandon your home, spend every last penny you have, enter a shelter with your family, apply for welfare/medicaid/ebt benefits, and u can easily become one of them. See how pleasant it is!
Actually you are right. Rather than move the poverty line they now qualify folks who earn 100-400% over the poverty line. You now have blue collar workers that qualify for some programs.
It's how politicians buy votes, and more taxpayers feel our government is wasting their tax dollars, and they have convinced themselves that the government owes them for wasting their money and heaping this debt on the nation, so they take the free stuff.

They paid for that right to eat better, with their votes. They traded the prospect of ever amounting to anything for some cheap political payouts. Every bite of that blood food is another nail in their coffin.

As my wife and I struggle to pay the monthly mortgage and our daughter's college, I'm left wondering why others don't have to be responsible for their own lives.
I was at the supermarket this past weekend, and was in line behind two full shopping carts full of racks of ribs, tenderloins, pork chops, soda, a ton of junk food, ribeyes, and a tons of other stuff totaling out to over $800. As she paid with her EBT card, I couldn’t help but wonder what it feels like to be able to buy as much top dollar food as you want with redistributed money of others, or if that would even cross the mind.
Does our current system give people any reason to stop taking advantage, stop having kids they can’t pay for, to be thankful for what they are given, or encourage them to get off the system to support their own existence? I’m talking about the leaches, not the vets, retirees, or handicapped, so keep that in mind.
Save the BS, I don’t feel like arguing about how heartless I am or people who are critical of our failed systems are. I don’t need to hear sad stories, I’ve experienced my own. I just want to know what you think about our welfare system, and its contribution to our entitlement society and the debt.
Is there any hope for our society or have we finally lost the country to the "give me free stuff crowd"..
Maybe you need a better paying job.
Go back to school and get a Masters degree in a career you are interested in.
Take personal responsibility and stop projecting rage onto the poor.
I see the point the OP is trying to make. My wife and I are basically debt free , just an upside down mortgage , we both work and are relatively frugal with our money. It just seems like some of the "welfare receipients" / EBT card holders dress better than we do, drive newer cars then we do, have the latest smart phones and $4000.00 wheels on their cars. Whether this is just perception or it is really the case , who know's but sometime it really seems like it's a reality. And no we aren't jealous, how can it be jealousy when we are the ones paying for their lifestyle ?
Welfare folks usually have no credit so those wheels are rented or loaned meaning financed.
Smartphones aren't much metropcs sell s them and its prepaid no contract.
I'm actually surprised there's EBT fraud at all.
A state issues the card, it has a magnetic strip on it with data, numbers.
It's similar to a credit card.
If a card is lost or stolen, why do states not cancel the card when issuing another, because,
If you have a credit card, and if it is lost or stolen, the bank will render the lost card invalid, unusable.
Have states not caught onto this yet? It's hard to believe that the issuer is that stupid not to cancel the reported lost/stolen card.
This is another reason why work. I am thinking to move back to NYC, find an apt, find a cash job and apply welfare.

I am pretty sure there will be free money. Going to dial 311 for the local friend social worker.
Going after the bio dad(s) for child support goes with the territory.
