Really, this is so stupid. Hostess closed for so many other reasons. The unions took huge cuts, the new non union people will be making the same money or more probably.
I don't think this will exactly shake the union ranks to it's foundation if Twinkies are made by non union people.

Most important lesson to be learned here, is that when huge union demands are destroying your business, the way to get rid of them is to declare bankruptcy and shut down. Then you can reopen under new management... rid of the union thugs.
BTW, were you wondering why Obama etc. bailed out GM instead of letting it go bankrupt? They would have reopened a short time afterward, you know, under new management. And gone right back to making cars, with the same employees if they wanted the jobs.
But the unions would never have voted massively for Obama again.
Unions Force Twinkies Out of Business, Twinkies Re-Opens With 1,500 New Hires… None Union

Dear union thugs, let this be a lesson.
The company that bought the Twinkie, HoHo and Ding Dong brands out of bankruptcy is gearing up to reopen plants and hire workers, but it won’t be using union labor.
Hostess Brands — Metropoulos & Co. and Apollo Global Management’s APO -0.58% new incarnation of the baking company that liquidated in Chapter 11 — is reopening four bakeries in the next eight to 10 weeks, aiming to get Twinkie-deprived consumers the classic snack cake starting in July.
Chief Executive C. Dean Metropoulos said the company will pump $60 million in capital investments into the plants between now and September and aims to hire at least 1,500 workers. But they won’t be represented by unions, including the one whose nationwide strike sparked the 86-year-old company’s decision to shut down in November.
When you make unrealistic demands and force companies to shut down, don’t expect the company to re-open with arms wide open to your ilk.
It wasn't the unions that closed the company!! Jesus Christ what part of tensof millions in pay increases and bonuses for the people at the top while the company was going under do you not get???? What part of the union had already accepted pay and benefit cuts do you not get????

That is totally factual. And this was not only the case with this company either, I have seen small niche machine shops in Michigan and Wisconsin make concessions only to close up soon after.
If the new owners, even the old owners thought they could have twinkies made in China cheaper and have them shipped to the states, and remain fresh, by gosh, they'd do it.
Unless they've always hired people at the top who know how to run a company whatever it is it won't stay that way for long. The company will keep getting lower and lower profits because the people at the top don't know how to run a company. Their "solution" will always be pay cuts for the workers while giving themselves huge pay increases. This will happen again and again and again until the workers, in disgust, form a union, and then a few more pay cuts and cuts in benefits until the newly formed business says **** it enough is enough and the company goes out of business and the rightwing blames the unions
Those workers could have been working for free and the rightwing would say it was their fault because they should have contributed money from their night jobs

Government does not control business. This is the US, not China for pete's sake.
Citing a story in a linked hateful website in the OP isn't a credible source of information, IMO. The dispute at the company which also produced these snacks which so many Southern 'crackers' enjoy is deeper than illustrated in the article. Here's another side of the story:
Quote:
The union said in a statement that Hostess made unreasonable demands, including wage and benefit cuts of around 30% for workers, while top executives of the company received large pay increases.
“The crisis facing Hostess Brands is the result of nearly a decade of financial and operational mismanagement that resulted in two bankruptcies, mountains of debt, declining sales and lost market share,” said union President Frank Hurt. “The Wall Street investors who took over the company after the last bankruptcy attempted to resolve the mess by attacking the company’s most valuable asset – its workers.”
Why didn't the union buy out the factory and run it themselves ?
Then they could pay whatever the workers wanted with all the benefits they deserve.
The unions don't want to be the managers because they know they couldn't give the workers what they want and still turn a profit.
Stupid question. Why didn't the executives drive the trucks and bake the products themselves. The union workers aren't supposed to know how to run a company. The ones running the company, or trying to, are.
